Default Rpm trouble

my disco is having a funky time with it's rpms. When I start her up, it'll jump to 2000 rpms in park, and when u go to drive it drops so low that it will sometimes just turn off.. any ideas?

Have you replaced the MAF sensor lately? If so, mr4x4 is correct in stating you will need to reset the ECU's adaptive values.
Some diagnostic scanner tools can do this for you.
