Good info. Luckily, I haven't experienced those situations. Hopefully, I don't. But maybe, as the tires start to wear and the traction degrades...

 

I'm sure age played a big role in their performance. They were not new when I bought the truck and the tread was at about 50% when I took them off after using them for maybe 10,000 miles. The winter of 2011/2012 didn't have any snow so I kept driving with them because I'm cheap but last winter we got whacked pretty good so I threw in the towel.

 

For long duration, dry conditions the KO's are good, strong side wall and hard rubber make them excellent for wash boards and desert trails. No good in mud or other slippery conditions. Owned a pair on 2 trucks. I picked up a pair of Falken Rocky Mountain tires, lower cost then bfg but same tire strength, rubber is softer and seems to provide more traction in slippery conditions. From the desert of Nevada to the rained out land of south Florida. I really like these tires for an "all terrain" given all tires do have their pros and cons. They look nicer then bfg KO's in my option also. I strapped on a pair of 245/75R16 and only rubbed on full suspension bottom out with stock setup, you could probably get away with 265/75R16 run you about $150 a tire, give or take a few bucks. I ran BFG All terrain TA KO's on my work truck for 4 years. I drove twice a week through a mountain pass where I would see 2' of snow and rain constantly (Vancouver Island). I cant say for off road use but, these tires are excellent in my opinion.
I am a Land Rover owner and in my opinion this vehicle is terrible in snow and rain, the anti lock braking system is junk.... I am in the process in putting new tires on my LR Disco, I will let you know how the BFG's perform.

 

I guess I am one of the only BFG fans around here. I put the MT's on back in 06' and driven about 20k miles. They have been good on the road whether dry or wet. Decent in sand and mud. I have about 1/4 to 1/3 tread gone with proper rotation. They are not overwhelming on the road for noise. I understand they have been discontinued for the KM2's.

Previously I had considered Cooper Discovery MT's and Toyo Open Country MT's. The Land Rover shop that belongs to the Florida club steered me toward the BFG's mentioning that they would last. I did not buy the tires from them only got advice and mentioned my options. The said most Asian tires are soft and wear faster.

Why pay that high price when they can break traction even in the rain on a tight turn.

 

BFG A/Ts are a horrid tire. Literally worse than other tires in every category.

 

I need new tires and have been considering the BFG All Terrain TA from tirerack. Glad I saw this thread. Also considering the General Grabber AT2 and Bridgestone Dueller A/T.
