Goodyear Wrangler MTR w/ Kevlar
Anyone have any experience with these on road specifically in snow/ice? I'm wondering if they are as bad as a lot of people say the BFG MT's are? A few friends of my friends love them for off roading but run other tires on the road. I'll only have one set. Thanks
MTR is not made for ice as they are a fairly hard compound. They dont seem to stand up well for on road use either. The heavy lug tends to cup and give you short life on the tire. Must better on road is the Duratrac if you want on/off road performance.
My last set of tires were Goodyear MT's, they were excellent off road and lasted about 2yrs or 20k miles but the load rating is poor (C-rated) and when towing with any load the tire tended to wear on edges. They are loud but not as loud as other MT's, also have noticeably poor handling on dry pavement.
I switched over to Goodyear Duratrac's and immediately I noticed improved handling, smoother and quieter ride. I have not off-roaded them yet but plan to soon, I'm sure they will do just fine with the trails I plan on running. I put a higher importance on load rating (E) over off-road traction which may be minimal at best and likely only in mud.
Good Luck!
