Talking '93 Disco V8i and oil....

Aloha all from the wobbly town of Christchurch in NZ!!

I have a Camel Trophy (yes you read correctly) promotional truck that is ex Japan. It is a V8i and only has 125000km on it. The fellas at my inde (who have been working on LR stuff for 30+ years) have suggested Total Rubia XT for my V8 as apparantly it has zinc in it which the older V8s like and the new oils don't have.

Thoughts anyone before I launch into an oil change today.......

Thank you

Oliver

Most people will recommend Rotella 5w-40 for cold climates and Rotella 15w-40 for warmer climates.

Hiya,

Thank you. The importers here don't do Rotella but they do Rubia XT which is 15/40. Should I or or shouldn't I??? That is the question. The LR mechanics did recommend it and they all use it in their V8s and Tdis.

Unlikely they would lead me astray....but looking for thoughts.

Would be a good oil. Stay away from the 10W30 thinner oil, in the US the quick oil change places buy it in high volume and sell it as "recommended", but Rover says you need something "thicker" beyond 35C. For others, here a link to spec sheet for Rubia http://www.lubadmin.com/upload/produ...ang_1/1179.pdf. For us country bumpkins, when it says approved for Caterpillar, that's enough....

Just change it every 3000 miles and don't use cheap oil filters. As for the rest of the truck, go to heavier gear oils like 85/140 and do a major service every 15,000 miles to protect what you have.
