Well just before you close this I would say that if you have bad cats it will show you codes like p0420 or p0430. If you have bad cats, you can correct all codes but not the p0420-30. Check for exhaust leaks, usually right before it gets to the cats for the p1170. Cheers!

 

Thanks, I will check for a leak this weekend when I change the passenger O2 and flush the tranny. I plan on replacing all 4 O2's anyways, this is just prompting me to do it sooner and replace in a specific order.

 

Closing yet another Tricky Dick chapter.

Recap - My new Purge Valve was cockeyed and caused the error to continue. After fixing it and keeping it perfectly horizontal issue went away.

New (unrelated) issue was the P1170. I will not do a write up but, I will close this chapter as well. I replaced the passenger side O2 and these codes went away:

P1170 - The fault code is not found in the database
P0300 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
P0304 - Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected

However, Tricky Dick strikes again and is now giving me:

P0150 O2 Sensor Circuit Bank 2 Senor 1

I reset it 3 times and it came back. Will do a bit more reading on this and update/ start a new thread as necessary.

 

I have more than once had an O2 sensor be bad out of the box. You might try swapping the upstream sensors side-to-side and see if the code moves to the driver side.

What brand sensor did you install?

 

I have another O2 showing up tomorrow and when I replace the drivers side, I will toss the old driver side O2 on the passenger side and see what the codes say.

I used the O2 from Okay Motor (below), I didn't check who the manufacture was, as at this point I am more focused on the P1170 code and misfire codes.

What will be interesting is if replacing the new with the old O2 will cause the P1170 code and misfire codes to show back up.

somebody is a little gassy...

Was replacing some bits on radiator mount and put in a "t" bleed valve. Decided to run Tricky Dick for a little to bleed out the coolant system and noticed a bit of a rotten egg smell. I am wondering if the new O2 is causing Tricky Dick to have a little gas or it really is the cat on the passenger side that has gone south. Didn't check the codes yet nor swap the old O2 back.

 

if it's the cat and u have federal emissions, I reccomend the magnaflow non oem style ones. About $550 but I love em man. They changed the sound and feel all together

 

I am in a location where I don't have to worry about emissions.

I am tossing around the idea of going catless but, need to research on how to fiddle with the O2's to skew the readings (i.e. resistor, spacer).

I will know more by end of week and I will first swap out the new cheap O2 with an existing old O2 that I know works.

 

update - Tried another cheap O2 and got the same code after it heated up, guess I am going to bite the bullet and order the whole O2 kit from Atlantic British but, replace 1 at a time starting with front passenger side. I also checked for any exhaust leaks, I "think" I hear one on the drivers side downpipe but, I can't see any visible (i.e. black marks).


Another of note...still bleeding the coolant and decided to check the temp with the icarsoft LRII. I was told 105 to 107 c. That works out to umm 221 to 225 f. Truck was not moving and idling for about 20 minutes.

 

They are adapters that fit the 18mm bungs that screw in and have an angle and then some excess to them where you still plug in the rear o2 sensor to do the cat bypass mod. The front will be fine either way
