Default Water pump

Does anyone know what the purpose is for a little white coned shap piece that fits in the center of the water pump shaft/disc on one end and the other end fits in the center of the power steering pulley. Or does this piece even exist? I removed the power steering pump, with the spring device that turns the Water pump still connected to the pulley. Once it was out, I saw this piece I'm referring to laying on the transmission. So I just figure that is where it goes. I just can't figure out its purpose. Unless it is just an alignment assistant when assembling.
In the mean time I lost it, can't find it anywhere. I put in new power steering pump. Reassembled, made sure water pump is connected. It's been running fine for three days. Just want to know it's purpose.

I was curious to see a picture of it but never mind.
