Default Ignition Switch

Hi,
According to the official dealer here, electrical power is drained from my 2000 4,6 Vogue through the starter switch and it needs to be replaced.
The car has now been sitting at the dealer for almost 2 months(!) awaiting new parts (ignition switch). The explanation (excuse) is that the supplier of ignition switches is located in Japan and production was stopped due to earthquake damages.
Is this so? If so, should it not be possible to get a switch or complete lockset from somewhere else?
Getting impatient – Thanks for any advice
Stale

May be 100% true, in which case no other dealer with a switch would want to sell it outside his range of clients. But I suppoose you could querry Rovers North, Atlantic British, and the like, plus any of the dismantlers (parts guys) listed below.

Jogging my memory banks here...
The only time I've replaced an ignition switch on a P38 was in 1995-1997
The ignition key would get stuck in the crank position and cause the hvac and radio
to be off while running.
Here's a bulletin for it.
http://jimsrover.afraid.org/rover/Te...20Start-up.pdf

There are 2 different steering columns, Yours' most likely the newer version
Not saying you cant replace the ignition switch in it but for some reason
it was not recommended and I don't recall if I have replaced one on a newer column or not (it has been 15yrs).
Don't know where the dealer got the part number for you, but you're probably waiting for a steering column.
Not saying that the ignition swicth is not the problem with your draw but I'm curious.
Did you have any key in warnings illuminated on insrument pack with the key removed?
Was the Alternator light staying on with key removed
More info please

Thank you for your feed back.

No - no warnings what so ever - just the flat battery. According to dealer this was found by testing.

Have also spoken to unofficial shop (but trained LR mechanics) that also doubt this diagnosis saying it is most likely draining power through the switch, but that it is not the switch that is the problem but rather some gizmo (can't remeber name) connected to it.

A second diagnosis may be worth your money.
Let us know what they find.
