Default Stuck in Neutral - Transmission???

OK first I really need a drink because =, I m starting to get a little overwhelmed with all the issues I've been having with this truck. At first it was fun fixing and finding solutions but now its really sick.

My 2001 HSE was running fine and shifting smoothly, however for the past few week I've been getting a transfer neutral error on the dash. Tonight after parking in reverse The truck went into neutral when I attempted to go in drive. It now makes a fussy grinding noise when I try and put her in park.

Not sure where I should start. Am I about to get involved with something super complicated and serious or is this a quick fix =. Thanks in advanced to all the helpful members of this forum.
