Default New member with a 96 4.6 HSE

Hi all I just picked up my first Rover. I have wanted one for ages and finally decided to go through with it. I have read several places about the head gasket issue. Is there a model year(s) that are more susceptible? My 96 has 151k Miles on it and as far as I know its the original gaskets. I am debating on just having them done as a precautionary thing.

Regards,
Joe

Welcome. Please download the free set of factory manuals, called the RAVE. You might do a coolant pressure test loaner gear from auto parts shop), and a combustion gas in the coolant test (that kit is about $50 and does like 16 tests, the "litmus" for HG leaks). If these are clear, work on other issues first. Also check out our tech section, lists of things to do for high miles new2U trucks. If it a'int broke, don't pay to fix it.

Thanks, I am in the process of downloading the RAVE manuals. I will try the pressure test and see what happens. I have no real symptoms just dont want a ticking time bomb so to speak.

Regards,
Joe

As you read and participate in the forums you find that the word "ticking" has a special meaning.....

Keeping the fluids fresh is the best way to prevent failures. I think mine has the original headgasekts too.
