Default Rover won't shift into low range gears

When I shift my 2000 Rover into the low range gears I do not get an indicator in the message center. The shifter moves smoothly from the high side to the low side, and the shifter moves normally through all the low range. It's obvious the truck has not shifted into the low range when driving. I'd like to trouble shoot and repair this problem myself if it doesn't get too big; is there a trouble shooting flow chart somewhere for this problem? If not what would be the common causes I should look for with this problem? I've looked through the electrical and mechanical sections of the manual but no joy. Any hint is appreciated. Thanks.

P.S. I also noted that the sport and manual switches don't appear to be functioning either. The shift cluster does not light up at night as well.

make sure your truck is in neutral first, your tcase ecu could be the culprit, check this out for some additional help

Range Rover P38/4.0/4.6 Common Problems and Fixes

most range rover problems can be fixed through that site.

it could also be the switch the tells the computer you want low range

Thanks. Yes, I stopped and had it in neutral before going from Hi into Lo range. I also noticed for the first time that when I shift through 1-D, the message console (backlite burned out so hard to see) shows the gears stop at 2 and does not go into first gear.

I'm going to check connectors and such first.
