Question 2020 Defender Turbo Cooling lines leaking - Parts backorder

Hi Everyone,

I received some unfortunate news from the dealership regarding my 2002 Defender with only 43k miles. The turbo cooling lines at the connecting joints are leaking, and the service informed me that the parts are on backorder. While they are willing to provide me with a loaner until the part arrives, a friend working at a body shop informed me that some customers have been waiting for months for the parts to arrive due to a shortage.

I am unsure about what to do in this situation. Although I am still paying for the Defender, I would not mind driving a loaner until the parts arrive. However, if it is going to take a while to get the required parts, I am wondering if a buyback by the dealer and purchasing a new Defender is a feasible option.

I am wondering if anyone has encountered a similar situation in the past and if so, what steps did you take?

Similar situation with a coolant line. Resolved by entering the part numbers here and having it shipped overnight to the dealer. Good luck.

l wouldn't replace the vehicle unless you can do it without making too much of a loss.

However if you've done 43k already it might be worth a thought, because you'll reach 100k next year in the vehicle. With that kind of mileage there's an argument for changing

Common problem, our 2021 was slowly losing coolant from leaking turbo lines. Parts came in overnight and was fixed in 2 days total.
Our 2023 coolant leak was the hose from the engine block to the radiator. Again, fixed in 2 days.
You would think that dealer parts departments would keep these lines/hoses on hand given how common these leaks are.

How did you identify and know to take the truck into the dealership?

After the low coolant light came on, I took my car to the dealer to have it checked. They found nothing wrong with the coolant the first time, but the light came back on. After a second check, they found a small leak.

Yesterday I left my Defender at the dealership and received a new Discovery as a loaner. The dealership does not have an estimate for when the part will arrive.
