Default 2022 Defender Build Question (Electronic Diff)

Hello!

Question - Should I equip the electric diff for intermediate off-roading?

New here and will be new to the LR brand! I have a 2022 Defender build that is currently set to be delivered in October and my last day of mod available is July 21. I have been going back and forth on the only thing I don't currently have that I might want. That is the "Off Road Pack", I currently have off road tires so the only thing it would really be adding is the electric diff.

Here is a link to my current build - https://build.landrover/CB9FEEE3 . The purpose of this build for me is to be functional as a kind of a road tripping exploring car. I live in Austin but plan on driving to California and Colorado often and doing lots of camping out of it. My dad recently retired and is doing a mild overland build on a LC200 Heritage so I really just want to be able to keep up with on intermediate off-roading trails.

Let me know what you all think. He won't be doing anything that would make ones hair stand up, but i'd be embarrassed to not be able to go somewhere he can

Thanks

I don't know how long you plan on keeping your defender, but just look at the sales history of past models. Resell will be better down the line and I would maybe even say you could recoup the cost over not having it even 10 years down the road. If you sell it in the next few years I don't know that it will be as big of an advantage, but you get the benefit of "having it". Where you are placing the order and get to pick I would 100% add it even if you don't think you need it.

I was in the exact same position as you.. Going back and forth on that option for similar reasons.

I went to the LR experience to test a defender that had the rear diff off road to see how often it used it and how well it worked. The defender i tested used the rear diff constantly while off road and it was very impressive how well it handled all the terrain there. After that experience i decided to equip the rear diff. Better to have it and not need it than get stuck and wish you had equipped it.

Trail conditions can go to much more challenging and difficult very quickly, as a result of weather and trail use.

As an experienced farmer accurately states "one cannot have too much barn", Over time and with growing experience and fond memories, anyone who finds they enjoy being off-road is likely to become aware that one cannot have too much capability available.

Financially, the price of ordering the rear locking ediff up front is a too low not to order it.

Do those of you with the rear diff have a bit of a bump under the car?

My new 2022 with rear diff has a bit of a bump in front of the rear wheels in the undercarriage. Is this normal? You can see it in this photo.

Outside of personal preference and perceived value, for the Defender I would without a doubt include the off road options, it will help with resale and future considerations from a buyer. Tow hitch (not tow package) is also another must have, critical option. Even if not used often, I’m going to assume since the Defender is positioned to be the ultimate adventure vehicle having these options are critical from that perspective. Just my 2 cents.

That bump on each side of the vehicle ahead of the rear wheels are the fuel tanks.

There is no armor yet available for the fuel tanks.

The rear diff is farther aft and is higher up.
