2022 SE P400 cold start noises and vibration - is it normal?
My wife has been daily-ing our new to us 2022 110 SE with the P400 (still getting used to using that to refer to the Defender's engine and not my 6.5L) and she's been loving it thoroughly. I wanted to see if the noises I'm hearing from the engine are "normal".
The engine is definitely making a "ticking" sound... dare I say a slight knock even when cold. I've checked the oil level and its right between the marks on the dipstick and the color is honey color. The service records from JLR indicate that its last service was at 21k miles per the recommendation - the engine has 29k on it now. Additionally when the engine is done with is - quite honestly ridiculously loud for what it is high-idle start up, when in the vehicle you can feel the car "bounce" slightly back and forth before it quickly stops. No errors or lights on the dash.
Is this engine noise normal? I've got an appointment for a oil change next week because quite honestly a 21k oil service interval is nonsense on a forced induction engine - but I want to know if I need to mention this behavior to the dealer when I bring it in.
Just as a little background - thanks to my life of working on old IDI diesel engines, I have an acute, finely-curated sense of vehicular hypochondriasis. Every new noise, vibration or smell is - in my mind - a precursor to mechanical apocalypse required hours of bloody, greasy knuckles or carpel tunnel syndrome from writing checks to my mechanic.

Everything that you have described is completely normal on the gas Ingenium engines (P300 & P400) on a cold start. The NVH levels are initially quite high, but quickly settles down. Often times people hear the injectors loudly ticking away and think there's something wrong, even though there isn't.
