Default 2024 Defender 90 Alpine Window Rattle

Hi everyone I’m new to this forum. I recently purchased a 2024 Defender 90 P400. CPO with 11,000 miles. Great rig so far, but it has had a horrible rattle around the drivers side alpine window. Since this was a certified preowned vehicle from a Land Rover dealership shouldn’t this have been caught and addressed? When I first mentioned it the dealership service manger, he said this would not be under warranty. Looking for any advice on a fix or how to resolve this with my dealer. Thanks!

I had a rattling alpine window trim repaired under warranty. The clips that attach it were not correctly engaged.

No idea what a CPO warranty covers but manufacturer’s warranty did.

just needs new clips and a correct installation

Take it to the dealer and let them fix it under warranty. I also believe there was a TSB issued on this a while back. I am surprised that it is still an issue with 2024 Defenders.

Yeah, take it back and tell them their “not covered” answer is bull****. It’s a 2024 car. Tell them to exercise proper Land Rover customer service instead of acting like it’s a Kia dealership.

CPO warranty is an extension of the factory warranty. Anything covered under the factory warranty is covered by the CPO warranty.

I appreciate all the input everyone. Good idea to look at the TSB’s. I’ll be talking with my dealer this week. I’m also adding a new wheel and tire package soon. I’ll post pics as soon as I install.

Again, I’m new to this forum and the feedback on this topic and others is prompt and helpful. Thanks again!

Give the plastic trim surrounding the skylight a few sharp taps in different places with the palm of your hand and see if anything is loose behind the panels that is causing the noise. Evaluate whether the trim needs removing to investigate or, more likely, that a plastic panel is either rubbing against another at the seam or up against the glass or frame. Try firstly to spray some silicone lubricant between panels, using a trim tool if necessary to aid penetration, and do it sparingly but thoroughly. If that doesn’t do it after a couple of days for it to become effective, then perhaps the trim will need removing for further investigation.I have had 100% success in eliminating squeaks and rattles at the back of my Defender and the dash of our Toyota Yaris and it took about 15 minutes to do the whole back of the Defender and maybe five minutes to sort the Yaris. Took a an hour or so to sort a dash rattle on my Ford Ranger but found two sheet metal plates behind the glovebox that were bolted together but vibrated at the middle of their run. Sorted that by lightly hammering a small chisel to bend and force the sheet steel apart slightly. There was a similar and more well known problem at the top seatbelt mounting as well, which was exceptionally annoying as it was near the driver’s ear. Sorted out in a similar fashion by using a drift to give some tension to the offending metal.Dealers generally don’t make much effort to sort this kind of thing because unless there was a faulty part that needed replacing, they would find it near impossible to claim a warranty payment from the manufacturer for the time taken when they could be earning the dealership £200+ per hour on a paid job. We may not like it, butbthat’s just the way it is, especially at large main dealerships.
