380mm Brakes w/ 19"
Does anyone know if 19's will clear the brake upgrade? (380f/365r)
My X came with the 5098 package, and on the X that means free brake upgrade to 380/365mm brakes.
I wish it had the standard brakes. I am trying to go to as small a wheel as possible, and hoped to do the Lucky8 rear conversion to go 18, only for my X to come in and to my surprise have mega-brakes. Id be happy if it were a race car, but its an off-road vehicle why its spec'd to have such massive wheels is beyond me.

Or converting to 18", if your off-roading will involve challenging obstacles or off-roading in poor weather.
Robust and highly capable 19" tires for off-roading are not available on the the market and never have been available. Even so, JLR continues to offer 19" as standard on their extremely off-road capable vehicles. This is their historical marketing approach, one which frustrates and confuses their new customers who find they want to use the capabilities the vehicles provide. .
As part of the relaunch of Defender, JLR did work with Goodyear to create an entry level, off-road tire for 18" 19" and 20" wheels, but the feedback on this blog strongly suggests these tires are not sufficiently robust to match the great capability of the new Defender off-road.

At LEAST they should offer 18" as an option on the P400's. I think that would mitigate everything AND give JLR an option dollar.
If I were ever in a position to recommend/advise any design changes to the Defender optioning or capabilities, that would be my only ask. No others. It truly is a brilliant vehicle. Almost all the challenges I have read or experienced have been quality issues or random supply problems which have little to nothing to do with the designers/engineers (and I lump the windshield into a quality issue not a design issue - they are either WAY too thin or there is a build stress that not everyone is experiencing).

I love the truck, truly. I just cannot understand why LR built it, then decided at presumably the last moment to compromise the entire why behind the truck, and place 20" plus wheels on it, rendering it relatively useless.
My intention all along was to go down to 18" with the lucky8 kit, however my dealer was unaware of the brake upgrade on the 22" wheels, which is hilarious as LR basically gives them for free. But again they are useless on this truck.
I agree with all of your advice, the 19" wheel market is unrepresented in tires. I was just curious if 19s would clear them. I deplore the idea of an offroad vehicle anywhere in the wild with 20's on it. But unless I swap out the brakes entirely I may be confined to this.
