adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist not working
I thought maybe I was crazy but mine also appears to turn the wrong way sometimes. Supposedly you can just get visual/audio warning but when I turn the active lane assist off on the screen it does the same thing without any audio warning? Anyone figure this out?
I feel like I'm taking crazy pills while reading this thread. This is going to come off sounding horribly wrong, but not one ounce of me is surprised to hear that this hocus pocus crap isn't working. You know where lane keep assist works infallibly? On a train, or a bus when you're not driving it. I get the sense that I'm listening to people who spent a whole lot of money to drive a particular vehicle, which they don't actually want to drive. It's late here on the East Coast, and admittedly I've had a few beers (and I'm safely in my home so I'm not relying on Land Rover tech to get me there), but someone please explain to me where the fascination with all this non-driving (and non-working) nonsense stems from. Am I just that out of touch with the times that I have no desire to take my hands off the steering wheel when I'm driving? I LIKE driving, and using the steering wheel to keep her between the lines with my spacial recognition and my own senses is in large part what I like about it. Judging distances, seeing how close to the limit of adhesion I can get and still stop perfectly on the white line without spilling my coffee, ENGAGING with the vehicle, that kind of stuff is what driving is to me.
Land Rover clearly invests more time in coming up with designer names for paint codes than they do in making all this smoke and mirrors stuff they sold you actually function. I hear you guys fawning over made up names like they're a COVID shot or something. There are three automobile colors that matter, black, silver, and white, the rest is just gilding the lily when you have a car that's actually rewarding to drive. And what's keeping any of you from just getting a bus pass and an Uber account? Seriously, you guys are on a car forum talking about how the car you just bought won't drive itself, so you don't have to. Do you simply feel ripped off because you believed in magic when you wrote the check and now you want your pound of flesh? Do you really think a bunch of other check-writers are going to actually understand how LIDAR works?
OK, it's a free forum and no one is forcing me to read this stuff, but I honestly feel like Alice in Wonderland trapped in the psilocybin forest as I try to wrap my head around all this driving but not driving stuff. To me it sounds like these discussions belong in a software code forum, or perhaps a litigation for unethical sales tactics, but if anyone can lay this out in some way that makes sense to a car guy I for one would love to hear it. Otherwise I'll just move on and wish you all the best in your pursuit of believing that pigs can steer.

LKA is scary in the Defender. My 2020 l405 it works better. When I drove my l405 home from Atlanta to Los Angeles 10 states in 2.5 days, it really really helped when I would glance at my phone and it kept me in my lane, and sometimes it would try to bounce between the lines but overall a great safety feature. We pay good money and GM, Toyota Honda and Tesla all do a much better job than JLR. But our cars look much better than anything they produce. It’s always been that way JLR always produces a beautiful vehicle but the tech is always years behind.

Different strokes for different folks.
I suspect your described needs are maybe most especially and consistently well met by BMW - which I think provide the best daily driver's experience -- day in and day out. I have driven more than one 5, 3 and 7 series BMWs and found each to be the most wonderfully drivable sedan of their class in mass production -- truly a special experience -- what Toyota and Honda and all the other mass sedan makers (excluding Mercedes) would like to be.
But, I never bought a BMW. Instead, I bought multiple Land Rover products.
So life goes ..... Enjoy !!
Ahab-I like your thread actually. I like driving as you do and as far as the fancy features go - a few I would like to know work reliably and others since indeed I paid for them I am certainly going to point it out to JLR but use will be very limited if at all. LKA is not a critical feature in my mind either. Retired pilot so I expect the manual to be correct and software to work as advertised but once this discovery process is over I will know and use the tools I think I have wisely I hope and that means for the most part just as you stated. So far the big pieces are in place for my P300 Defender -it drives very smoothly and quietly -it has decent enough fuel economy and the basic functions work well at this point - also there are not any false warnings- that’s a winner-the rest is gravy. I wish I had found this forum earlier and enjoy all the inputs and opinions. Sold my original defender years ago as I needed to be a bit more practical and am thrilled and fortunate to have this new one which is both practical and fun. It will be my daily ride and a bit of a hobby and for an old guy is just a bit cool.

It has been almost 2 months since I posted on this thread so if at this point you still have issues with Cruise Control or LKA (Lane Keep Assist) then my thought is that your vehicle is not receiving updates for some reason.
My basic vehicle software state is quite improved from when I received my Defender the beginning of October and again since I last posted on 13 November on this thread. Both of those functions as well as any other I had noticed have all been corrected with a series of updates. These are the main system updates I speak of - I am currently at 2.0.7. In summary as of this posting LKA works very appropriately now and cruise control is exactly as in the manual. I would add that when switching from a speed limit function to a more traditional Cruise speed control one the press called for on the cancel button on the drivers steering wheel is a “long press”.
I do not believe these type functions are affected by having an InControl Account or any Live App updates which deal mostly with their apps such as Deezer, Spotify and Weather. My last update in that section occurred on 12/04/2020. Some have had more recent updates to Live Apps than mine but I note we have different apps in use-for me it is only the Weather App.
The main software updates should come to you via your built in 4G and or your home Wi-Fi if you are logged into that system. The curve ball on receiving those updates in my mind is some of the on board computer modules which I had dealer updated via a usb stick early on and as noted elsewhere in this forum another user had to have updated by a dealer when his vehicle had major issues with an update. If you do not have either 4G reception which is possible if you are located remotely or home Wi-Fi then maybe a trip to a location where the cellular connection can be made would be in order.
If you do not have 2.0.7 as a system software level then I would first try a reset of the PIVI Pro by holding down the on/off button for 15 seconds or more until the screen blanks and then returns with the Landrover oval. This has caused some vehicles to start to receive updates as was my case HOWEVER as I mentioned this process could be affected by on board computer modules that are corrupted or out of date for you Defender. In this case it would mean going to see a dealer with your Defender I believe. I recommend asking them to check currency of your on board modules and see if this helps.
Many of these thoughts are covered in discussions on the “Annoying Software Updates “ thread on this forum.
Good Luck
