I know this is not the GAP thread but since it is about adaptive lights I have a question or two. I have the GAP tool and the CCF
MultiCAN - 636 AdaptDrvBeam. Set to AdaptDrvBeam Disabled. My understanding is you have to have the Mayrix LED to be able to activate this. Based on my 110’s CCF listing I have the matrix LED. I changed the setting to enable and nothing. Well nothing other than the ability to turn on and off the auto high beam disappeared. I still have auto lights and high beam assist or whatever just no place to switch on and off in the PIVI anymore. I left it to see if maybe it would magically show up as some have reported with other changes but nothing. Anyone have ideas or info on this?

This never worked out. JLR list the headlight type in the CCF as matrix LED but the physical lights are not the correct ones for use with the adaptive driving beam. Making changes to the CCF’s only resulted in error codes. In order to make this work the correct headlights would have to be purchased and installed.

Guys,

I have an idea. It won’t magically give you matrix headlights, but it might solve the issue of the lights being too dim.

This video from powerfulUK describes the Adaptive Front Lighting System (AFS)

the high beams apparently dip at low speeds, and then change their angle to illuminate more roadway if you’re going faster than 70, or in a rural area without might lighting!

the idea: can one of you CCF wizards figure out how to get the high beams to always think you’re driving 70+ on a dark country road? Is there a GAP tool setting?

I think the true brightness of the high beams is being obscured by the AFS feature… we might not have to install matrix to get truly bright high beams if this can be done.

AFS is only on a few cars, and if you are in the US, even fewer as they only recently changed law to permit it. Are you saying that if you have AFS, your lights are dimmer under 70? What AFS does, as far as I understand, is to change the way the high beam/low beam exchange works. It does not make the lights brighter per se, it just cuts off power to those LED's that would blind oncoming traffic if you left your high beams full on. It does not change the brightness of the low beam lights. Also, I do not believe it is speed related, only weather high beams or low beam would be used.

I have a 23 Defender l-400.
When I start the ignition at night my headlights dip and raise.
I am wondering if mine might just need a software update when available?

Thanks...I have had it 2 months and still learning about it.

That is normal, found in the owners manual. The feature is called ‘headlight leveling’.
