Tried again today and any mention of 4.2 has disappeared. Nothing. Have they removed the 4.2?
If 4.2 failed to install and then disappeared, it will come back in a day or two or after a decent drive. Do check your 12v battery status before trying again. That is the usual reason updates don't install. I've never had one that previously failed then fail again after a quick 12v top up.

Ironically, if you are on 4.1.5, 4.2 adds nothing except improved access to future updates. So far I've also been ignoring the requests to install it.

But what happens if you choose to decline an update. Does it stop nagging you?

If you do, or if you just ignore it, does the next update offer still appear, or are you forced to install each and every offered update incrementally?

As far as I can tell disagree/decline does nothing but dismiss the window. It still bugs you every single time.

Hey Zondar, at the moment it's stopped completely. No mention of 4.2, and it now says I'm up to date at 4.1.5. It's gone from nagging at every shut down to no message at all. Not even the little red message spot on my profile outline.
I know it doesn't add much, but I've had O-T-Air update issues so thought it might be good to have.
Weird - time will tell.

This 4.2.0b is interesting - maybe they have replaced the missing 4.2 with the 4.2b, because I have two of those listed faults :
– Maps in the Driver Display may be replaced by a blank area.
– Audio may continue to play after exiting the vehicle.

Hopefully this will be released across the board soon.

Bah. I updated to the latest version a couple of days ago and have had 3x black screens in 3 days.

Outrageous that this keeps happening in a vehicle at any price point, let alone this one. Dealer of course has no idea.

I just picked up my first ever Defender, a 2025 110, in October. How do you see the current software version? I don't see anything listed in the software update section in settings. I have not been prompted to update the software yet either.

That’s normal and what you’d expect in a new one. You won’t see a software version displayed until after your first update has installed. You may well have the latest version installed from the factory. If not, chances are you’ll see something soon.

With regards to OTA updates:

1) Never be the first one to install it.
2) If nothing is currently broken, don't update it.
3) Don't let the allure of shiny objects deter your steadfastness with regards to #2.

It's clear that the JLR programmers in Ireland are not quite up to snuff on things like regression testing and software validation. I'll give them a bit of slack since, who knows what the hell happened during the chip shortage. All in all, this is why new cars suck in general. Too many computers, too many screens and too much over-engineered complexity.
