I think the classic mud flaps look too agricultural for my taste but wanted mud flaps to stop dirt and stone chipping away at my lower trim panels - so went with the standard mud flaps and think they look great.

What tires and size did you go with? It looks like you have just enough room for the flaps, which is what I am trying to get as well.
These are Goodyear Duratracs 255/60R20. Not too noisy and not a significant drop in mpg. These are my winter wheels and tires - I'll be switching them out for my regular 22's now that Spring is finally here!
Plenty of room for the mud guards with these tires.
Do the smaller ones prevent the sides of the Defender from getting blasted with junk? They seem a little too short in length...🤔
They look much nicer than the classic larger mud flaps but do they get the job done?
They do a decent job. But not a stellar job. Side note I think they look great on the L663.
Fronts = Still get "spray" on the front door and on the rear wheel arch forward of the rear wheel. But it's less than before I put the mudflaps on.
Rears = Protects the rear bumper pretty well. But a bit of spray underneath that rear bumper side piece.
Overall I'm happy w/ mine. They don't do 100% what a mudflap should do but have definitely minimized the dirt on the vehicle.
Really awful pic from this weekend but if you zoom in you can see...
