One thing that truly impresses me is the engine in my Defender, and mine is the P300 flat or i4.
If we're going to jigger around the corporate logo, why not go for a "with the soul of a Jaguar" (under the hood/bonnet?)?? I would proudly wear it!
I was out lurking on the Blue Ridge Parkway early this morning and truly enjoyed the best time! Using the ASL mode I just let the truck drive mostly, one of the few times I can think of a use for that feature. (touch Lim and push up the toggle to set. It will not exceed the speed limit,
and dances perfectly
when you catch up with anyone.
BEARLY truly enjoyed as did Tinkerbell, my co-pilot! Yes, I don't have a dog ATM.

Exceptional enthusiasm and usage of the LIM - cruise function… And credit’s due for an out of the box idea.
Yet…beyond the Royal Windsor Jaguar Festival attendee list, I don’t think ppl would want that badge on another brand of car. I know I would not.
Also - These sorts of brand attribution things don’t seem to work well:
So what types of cross-brand marketing stories might be there in the future?
I’d speculate marketing is more worried about creation of quick electrification DNA trchnology stories than preserving ice motor DNA, in any shape or form…. and then on top I’d argue that Jags have never been known for great reliable motors. V12’s that break. Brilliant in-line 6’s hindered by a bad chassis. The XK motor that soldiered on for 49 years and at the end of the run was hardly current. So sadly that puts your P300 gas motor (and any current powertrains) on the wrong side of the story.
Now what might be an interesting idea = if Jag were to establish itself as an actual groundbreaking electric brand with a future ..? McGovern’s charge. (which is unfortunately unlikely to work because someone needs to just put the cat brand out of it’s misery rn and sell off the money losing albatross with zero new product in near term pipeline, or put the brand on pause as The Intercooler quite vocally suggests)…. then perhaps linking LR powertrain with new Jaguar innovation success could feel like a story marketing might want to tell.
All fertile ground for some good debate! 🤪

Nash, my dad used to always say that his dad's Cadillac was just a Chevy with lipstick, so today's equivalent might be Lexus is a 'Yota with makeup?
Anyway, I have never been an advertising guy, sales & marketing, sure. I ran three separate biz during the days. Retirement suits me well, and Tinkerbell and I went out on bear patrol this morning in BEARLY. She got all wide eyes for the deer and those two horses I found got her talking!
I'd put it on mine. Sure. ICE engines are coming to an end regardless of what you or I think or desire. I want my BMW 440i back, but I am a practical f*ck.

i guess the "soul" of a jaguar is better than the "sales" of a jaguar, or the "service record" of a jaguar
with full-year sales for jaguar down 66% since their peak in 2018, i'd say land rover and defender would be wise to just steer clear from reminding people it has anything to do with jaguar.
don't get me wrong, e-types and xj's are some of my favorite cars of all time, but when i think "defender," i think of a totally different animal.
