I also want to replace the battery myself. But to do so, does this require some internal configurations to be set using a gap IID tool?

I spoke to dealer and they agree to replace as my car is 1 week old CPO with 7000 miles on it.
Also dealer mentioned that replacing battery is more profitable than checking it (under warranty). So if you still have a warranty, take it to dealer and ask about replacing.

3 years old with 83k miles on the truck - a bit outside of warranty.

83k miles@3years?
You must live inside of Defender! Side note, how's the car holding up other than the battery? petty reliable car you would keep till 100k once all lil things taken care of?

And for replacing battery often requires coding (Porsche requires to register new battery) so I'm guessing our Defender is same way but I'm sure GAP tool would have it since it's pretty simple one that most of iCarSoft can do as well.

Ah - the joys of being retired permit multi-month travels. The Defender has held up great especially when you factor in 22k of those miles have been towing a 6,700 lb Airstream and I off-road every 4-6 weeks where the truck's capabilities are put to the test. The only repairs have been a couple of O2 sensors and a coolant leak by the supercharger. I usually put 200k miles on a vehicle before thinking about a new one. I've no indications this won't be the same for my Defender.

quick update for the day, had the ctek back charging overnight. i was able to get to step 4 and still currently charging and no errors. i guess step 5 can determine if the battery can hold the charge.

if i was going to replace the battery out of my own pocket would you go oem or aftermarket

Glad to hear and great to see Defender is in right place doing right work. It's like a sheep dog in a farm!

OEM battery giving us this much headache, I would go to aftermarket if I have to pay for my own battery. I'm sure you can find much better quality battery at OEM price. Hope to hear your result from step 5 but it's taking awfully long time, very unusual...

From what I’ve read and seen, there are hundreds of brand batteries but in all reality it seems like there are only a few actual manufacturers.
I’ve had a Walmart AGM battery in my R53 mini for 5 years now with no problem and it sits sometimes for weeks on end, in our 2019 L405 autobiography for over a year, and now in my 2020 Defender p400 for almost a month now. Very happy with the cost, warranty and battery in general so far on all 3.
im sure you could replace the battery 3 times over for the price of an oem, but Walmart provides 4 year warranty and they are everywhere so it’s a no brainer for me, even if it goes during our travels, a Walmart is only so far away and it’s easy enough to replace, but it will give you signs like the low battery warning before it actually strands you.
