Default Best time to buy

I am looking to order a new Defender, not in a hurry as don't really need till next year, for towing and trailering, etc - any ideas when prices might stabilize somewhat and deals become available. Currently, supply is very limited and only high end highly spec'd vehicles available.

The few high end highly spec'd Defenders on dealer lots were ordered by that dealer. They figure that someone that wants a Defender right away will pay that price. Many of these even have an additional dealer markup.

Since you are not in a hurry, order one exactly as you want it. Probably takes 4-5 months to arrive. Use the "build" function on the Land Rover website to figure out what exactly you want: https://buildyour.landroverusa.com/l...794-1004745135

I imagine for the next year or so you will need to pay full sticker price. I guess that's better than paying for what is available on the dealer lots.

The local dealer in Omaha has had a total of 6 come in for the year. Supposedly there are some more on the way, but as you said, they are HSE or SE with a few First Editions mixed in.

I have not seen a Defender or Defender S yet. Everyone that I have seen have had the upgraded headlights. That is the tip off for me on what model it will be.

With the way that this year has gone, I doubt we see much of a price break until a price break until after the 90 shows up.

I am like you and was not in a hurry, and I ordered one from the dealer spec'd out the way I wanted it. The order was put in on July with a build date of August and a delivery date at the end of October. I used the build sheet and picked every option that mattered to me; it kept the price right where I wanted it. You may want to wait till mid-year next year as they are breaking up some of the packages. This can give you better options versus me who had to choose all or none on some options. I started with a P300 Model S and started adding from there. Also, if you wait, rumor has it you will be able to get 18" on a P400 if you are looking to off-road. I wanted 18," so my only option was the P300 as they were still hashing out if you could get 18 on the P400.

I expect to pay MSRP but hoping I might get some wiggle room with it being the end of the month. The dealership may give a slight discount to get the number of cars sold for the month up. I'll report back once I have taken stock of the Defender.

My local dealer in Omaha got 4 Defenders in yesterday, with only one of them sold before they came in.

As of this afternoon, they sold all of them and the one and only other Defender they had on the lot.

That is 5 in 24 hours through one dealership.

I can only hope that the high demand will help with resale some time down the road.

Smart salesman are serving customers that want these by calling them when they come in... if you want one, get on someones list... one that meets your wants just might come in.

I have a D110 and a D90 and had the front under shield installed on both post buy. Still frustrated over the cost but I think it a useful and necessary accessory. I watched Sarek install on the D110 without removing the bumper, grill, etc. Lift absolutely necessary and a tight fit, but doable. PS Sarek actually let me stand in the work area (within reason) and watch the work being done. My mechanical experience consisted of several wrenches (spanners) and a ball peen hammer. These plastic bits intimidate me. Dealer prices for parts and labor are all over the place!
