I mentioned this in my first post. I thought I'd try and get more input on this. I just purchased a 2020 Defender 110. When I try and set up a profile in the car it states I have no internet connection. Car was at the dealership for 4 days, and the only thing they could come up with is I need to pay for a data plan. The problem is I can't figure out how to do it. I contacted Landrover support and they gave me At&t vehicle support number. I call them and gave my vin and said it's not in there system.
Currently when I look under system settings it looks like the car has a Tmobile account. I call TMobile and they ask for the E ID for the sim a 32 digit number. I don't know where to find that.
Would anyone have any insite on this, or have had a similar issue?
Thanks in advance.
Have you gone to www.incontrol.landrover.com to set up your account? You may have to delete the previous owner’s account if that is still connected with the VIN.

I think there are two connections, one you connect to your home router for example if you're in your driveway or garage. That is used for updates and may be used for config changes like this. The other connection is the SIM card that allows you to have a wifi hotspot inside the vehicle. I don't think you need to worry about the latter one just yet. Try to get it connected to your wifi router first and then retry. I think you might still run into issues with the account change even after connecting but I wish you luck. It's too bad this dealer doesn't seem like the best and being Land Rover I suspect the next closest dealer to you is probably the next city over. That's why I like to get a feel for the dealership before I buy because take it from me you're potentially going to be seeing these people a lot. It's unfortunately not like Ford or GM where there are 6-10 dealers to pick from in each city.
It may also be something the dealership needs to do on their end. Like in my situation when I had already signed up with an email address on the incontrol website and what not and then my free email provider of more than 20 years closed down I had to change my email address right at the time I took delivery of the new car. When I tried to change to the new email address on the existing account the website said it was in use. That made no sense as it was a brand new gmail address. What ended up happening is the dealer had to remove everything from the system on the dealership's JLR's side and then setup everything fresh. It sounds like your dealer may need to do something similar in this case and might not know how?? Not sure if that's possible. New ownership or new staff, anything is possible I suppose.
Thanks, I do have an Incontrol account, and the app works on my phone. I'm able to do all remote functions. While I was at the dealer I connected to there Wifi and it still did not see the connection. The dealer stated they did have a tech the works more on these issues, but he was out of town in training and will run it by him when he gets back. I saw a Vid on powerful UKs channel on how the different connections work and I think the wifi connection is only a backup for the updates. I'm going to try escalating this with Incontrol support maybe see if they could activate the service only to allow me to setup my profile.
If you search back thru my old posts, my wifi connectivity expired on my 2020, and I attempted to renew it. JLR does not have the consumer facing website / app set up to renew the wifi.
I did the same thing, called AT&T etc etc. Does not work. What did work was JLR support reps just reactivated mine.
Basically your car has 4 points of connectivity. What you're talking about is #3 below... you're trying to set it up to work, yes?
1) WIFI - home connection -- Wifi to your home router (configure this if if you can)... a simple logging in, you can do this. This is a good idea as it's stable, your home wifi is probably decent, and the car can update itself this way and some have found it to work much better than the OTA mobile updates in terms of updates coming quickly.
2) WIFI hotspot / in car connection -- JLR built in wifi hotspot in your car (this was an option, not all had it, my 2020 X does and it works awesome) -- this is so you can use your iPads etc in the car. I use it to work on my laptop frequently and have a radar detector and I believe a dashcam that access the wifi as well.
3) Mobile data for #2 WIFI Hotspot -- The #2 above hotspot just broadcasts wifi to devices you have through the car, but the actual mobile connection that makes the hotspot is a built in modem in the car that goes through T-Mobile or AT&T. Mine bounces between carriers depending on where I am. It has an e-sim, not a physical sim. This is what JLR support INCORRECTLY told you to call AT&T about. I called AT&T also -- they don't know about your car and that is poor advice for the 2019 and prior incontrol older cars.
4) Mobile data for the Land Rover -- this is non configurable by the owner, it's how the car receives software updates and communicates with the JLR remote app, etc. Probably how they spy on us and steal our data as well (kidding, well.... maybe not, idk). There's no sim, and no service to set up and or cancel on this AFAIK. In other words the car has 2 cellular modems, that work in parallel one for owners to use on wifi, one for JLR to use for big brother purposes to update the vehicle. ETc. Apparently, although there has been much speculation about this on UK forums, the JLR updates keep coming to the car even after the warranty runs out.
Thanks,
I did call incontrol support again. and this time they told me I should have an active data plan and they are opening a ticket to check it out. Hopefully this will be a solution.
That is exactly where I ended up -- they created a 'ticket' -- then magically my in car wifi started working a day or so later. Also in my remote "incontrol account / app" it went from saying "expired" to now just showing up... like this

Still waiting for an update. Question when you had no data plan were you not able to create a profile, or did you already have a plan and it expired?
Thanks I'm just trying to determine if the cause of my not being able to create a profile in the pivi is because of no data plan. I just purchased a sim card /usb/usbc module on ebay to see if that might work if this doesn't pan out.
