Is there a way to find out what ship car is on without asking dealer? I have the build sheet and vin#, but i think I’ve bugged my sales guy enough … not about to ask him the ship name to track it like a nerd. Just asking …
No, the sales person has to give it to you. Don't worry about bugging him, they're likely making a lot of money off you and you'll probably never talk to him again. There's also nothing nerdy about watching marine traffic, especially if you have a vested interest in one ship.
my experience with JLR is that only the dealer has the info, and mine wasn't even able (or willing) to check with the powers that be to get me the info when i asked last year. could have just been my dealer. who knows. have had way different experiences with other manufactures. porsche, for example, lets you track the entire build from factory to dealer, including all pertinent shipping and port info. i've definitely wasted a bit of time over the years "nerding out" over marine traffic while waiting on a car...
Go ahead and ask. They have the ship name and it will only take a moment to pass it along to you. It was fun to follow the progress of the Defender from
Zeebrugge, Belgium to Germany, South Hampton and arriving at Baltimore. You will lose tracking as the ship crosses the mid Atlantic, but then it magically
reappears once it gets close to the east coast. A couple of pictures as my 110 arrived in the States.
