After nearly 10 months of ownership I've never tried this outlet but today plugged in my solar battery to test for an upcoming trip. No current coming out of the outlet!
Obviously the engine was running as I figured it had to be for this to work. There must be an inverter somewhere inside the vehicle that powers this. The cigarette lighter on the opposite side underneath the integrated air compressor is working fine and all other electrics seem fine. Taking off the rear cargo space fuse box panel and looking through the documentation I can't find any mention of a fuse or breaker to reset.
Dang! Made me realize that 10 months in I’ve never tried mine. Off to the garage…
EDIT: Works like a sumbuck. Your instinct was correct — the receptacle is switched. Engine doesn’t have to be running but Accessory power has to be on.
I wish it carried enough current to plug a small compressor into. ‘Twould be a nicer place to inflate tires from than raising the hood and setting the compressor on the front of the engine bay. Plus you’d be surprised how many times I get a nice and well-meaning soul stop and back up to see if I need help when the hood is up and I’m standing beside the truck airing back up. And not to blame them in any way — I do the same thing for folks.

@NoGaBiker Ha! Let me know if yours is working and if I'm not doing something correctly to make mine work? Thanks
Nope, nothing required that I can tell. I flailed around in the darkened garage (WHY do they put such insufficient lights back there?) till I found the flap, plugged my phone charger brick in, plugged the phone in, nothing. Went up front and pushed the Start button (without foot on brake) so it just came on to the accessory position, and the phone lit up indicating it was charging.
I don’t see anyway to futz it up even if you wanted to; sounds like yours is just misbehaving. Sorry that’s happening!
OK, may have solved my own problem (sorry to waste a thread, but maybe it will be helpful for others in the future)... Went back out to the garage and turned on the accessory ignition (like NoGaBiker) and tried a simple iPhone charger brick. Noticed a small yellow light now (good sign) and it powered the charger and the phone. When I plugged in my EcoFlow River Pro Portable power station, the yellow light came on for a split second then turned red and no power! I plugged in a nearby floor fan (after having to turn off the ignition and turn it back on - to "reset" the outlet) and it worked fine, fan on high speed and outlet with yellow light. So I must assume that the EcoFlow power station external battery is trying to draw amperage beyond the capacity of the outlet. Good to know before I get out in the woods!
The Ecoflow charges fine using the cigarette lighter plug on the opposite side and reads that its receiving around 100watts of power, so that'll be fine.
Although, I have been really tempted and watching other threads about dual battery setups and would love to have a "real" inverter as part of that said system that could handle larger load than what this outlet can.
Like many of my vehicle's features: I'm clueless as to whether I even have it!<g> I guess I should join the "never used it yet" group. Can someone remind me what package, trim, spec, wish list that has to be ticked to have it? Or should I just get my butt up and go check....?

Ahhh, good! At least it’s not the poor Defender’s fault!
I rigged a big-*** inverter for the back of my 2-door Wrangler a few years ago. I wanted to run a small 120v Porter Cable pancake compressor off of it, which cut air-up time to about 1/4 what my DC ViAir 400 took (and with four 37” tires down under 10 pounds for off-roading, that amount of time is significant.) It worked great, but I pulled some big-*** cable up to the engine compartment, and used a manual cut-off relay to handle the current and so that I could keep the thing unpowered except when I needed it, since I often left the Jeep in parking lots with the windows out, and didn’t want someone having access to a powered inverter in back.
But with that JK, poking holes in the (carpetless) floor or firewall to pull cable was just part of a day’s work. I have no idea how I’d route cable for something like that in the Dfdr.
@GrouseK9 It appears to come with the "Off-Road Pack", which also adds the "off-road tires" and the Electronic Active Differential. Not sure if it can be added as a stand-alone option as that's the only place it shows up on the online builder.
I use mine to power a small compressor. It's barely powerful enough to inflate a Defender tyre or two back to full PSI. Do all 4 and it may go into meltdown. If I get a reparable flat it should be good to re-inflate that too.
I use it usually for inflating bike tires or charging up the kids Nintendo Switch when we bring it on longer road trips. Very useful indeed for appliances that don't power via USB.
Ah that makes sense and brings back old wounds. I ordered the Off-Road Pack & had the ClearView Rear Mirror standard on my MY22 - both of which the Dealer lost when my MY23 showed up...
