Beats the living hell out of me. I don't actually work here.

It could just be called "front/rear" even though it isn't actually ever used at the front? Maybe they use it in the rear as a lash point only during transit and not for actual prohibited towing?

I'm going with "I didn't get one but life usually works out really well for me" so I can't care.

There is nowhere on the front of the new Defender for the two hook to be screwed into, if you need to tow from the front you use the permanently attached tow eye that is hidden behind the front undershield. If you have the two rear tow eyes attached then there isn't anywhere for that tow hook to be screwed into either at the rear as the optional tow hooks are in place of the screw-in mounting. The two rear tow eyes aren't just for towing the vehicle backwards they can be used when you are recovering another vehicle.
