Default In-Control App/UsedDefender

I am getting ready to pull the trigger on a used 24 Defender (traded in at a non-LR dealer). Will I be able to easily set-up the in control app so I can remote start? Will I need the dealer or previous owner to do anything? I read through the set-up instructions but it didn’t mention anything on this.

The following is from the owners manual, but from what I have read on the past, the previous owner needs to delete the account and remove the vehicle from the registry, (or something to that effect). I’ve read of owners having problems setting up an account because of this issue. If the previous owner had a PIN attached to the InControl account it could be a problem, although I think with Land Rovers help, and patience, they can overcome that issue. When I first took delivery of my ‘22 I spoke with a Customer Satisfaction Rep at corporate to complete my InControl account setup due to failure of my dealership to put me in the system. Good luck.

INCONTROL ACCOUNT SET UP [G2386318]

InControl features, such as the InControl Remote smartphone app, Optimized Land Rover Assistance, and Online Pack require an InControl account.

Some InControl features are subscription services. The subscription for these features can be extended after the initial term has expired. For further information, please contact the retailer/authorized repairer.

An InControl account may have been registered by the retailer/authorized repairer. Please click on the link from the InControl email sent by the retailer/authorized repairer which takes the user to the InControl website and follow the on-screen instructions.

If no activation email has been received, please check the email spam folder. Alternatively, contact the retailer/authorized repairer.

To register, connect, and activate an InControl account, please refer to the My Land Rover InControl website at: https://incontrol.landrover.com. Follow the on-screen instructions.
NOTE:When an InControl account is set up, the user of the account creates a PIN. The PIN is required for certain InControl features.

NOTE:The owner is responsible for removing the vehicle from the InControl account when ownership of the vehicle is transferred.

I had no trouble setting up an account when I bought mine used. I doubt that the prior owner did anything other than delete the app on her phone.

Bought a y21 with 5k miles on it some time ago. I had to contact the previous owner and ask to DE-REGISTER the car from his account. Did not allow to add it to mine otherwise.

Default Local Land Rover dealer can help

We recently bought a 21 110 from a non-LR dealer so I called my local dealer and they have a specialist that just deals with the systems and provides customer training. I have her the VIN and my email address and sent my bill of sale, and she registered me in the LR system; I got the welcome email, set up an ID; you have a certain amount of time to press the button by the sunroof controls so the car connects to their network and is paired. I even got trials for hotspot, data, etc.

i tried to do this on my own; couldn’t w/o LR connecting my VIN w my email.

loving remote start, and my Defender, of course!

I had this same issue when I bought mine. I called the dealership near me and gave them the vin and my sign in info on the vehicle (IIRC) and they switched it over to me over the phone. It was easy and took like 5mins.

The dealer can do it without the prior owner deleting his account.
