OMG, THAT would be complex. I did a frame up restoration on a Series IIa and it took me 3 years at my piddling pace. I couldn't imagine what that swap would look like! Then again, someone motivated with the right time & tools would take far less than me. I have a day job that would interfere!

While I love using West Palm Beach to order random parts, they are consistent (to me) for NEVER shipping anything fast and ALWAYS calculating the wrong shipping cost on-line. Ymmv - but I wouldn't trust either of those data points on something that large.

People must be rebuilding them because i dont see many 2nd hand parts for sale. I am on the hunt for a rear locking or open diff for a 4cyl for a while now. Just dont see much on car-part or even eBay.

Ironically, I'm looking for a locking diff for a 6cyl. If I find a 4, I'll let you know!

Here's a link to one on eBay for the 6-cylinder

Thanks, @sarek . I'm not a pro, but last time I looked into that one from PartsLink - I came away with the conclusion that the part changed between model years. I don't think it was purely a part supersession, but flat out couldn't work. Also, most of the electronic wizards that would do the reset hadn't gotten the 2022's to work yet. I decided to kind of slow track it until my warranty was up, anyway. So, while I'm "looking", I should have fully disclosed that it's mainly window shopping for another 13 mos.

It seems the only difference is the pinion yoke. It would require snagging the driveshaft also. Otherwise they are the same.

My guess is to China, they do not have a salvage title there either, and LR charges a fortune in China. Its why you have to sign the "No China Sale" waiver when you buy it, or be banished from the LR kingdom for life!!!

Or they just part them out.
