Default 2020 p400

My drivers side went out about 2 months ago. Part initially back ordered til mode June…then early July and now nobody knows. Drove to work this morning and when pulling in the parking lot I noticed in the building windows that now my passenger side is also out. Luckily the turn signals still work and the headlights themselves are ok, but the halos and the little squares are dead. Seems like all the trouble happened after the last software updates. Wondering if this is software related and not hardware?

Looks like you got the OP's wishes to come true to you. At least you do not have to drive a one-eyed defender like I had to for months on end, before my replacement came in. It was quite embarrassing.

My salesperson recommended I turn on low beam lights when my one DRL was out. That was a little better you have to manually turn every time you start truck

Saw one in Austin the other day and it is a bit funky looking. One of my Defenders is at 22k miles and the other is at 16k miles so im thinking it’s going to happen soon.

quick update. per above, my drivers side drl went out July 1st. part ordered on the 3rd. dealer told me it could be a while as they were waiting on 4 or 5 others. ended up getting the call this AM that the part was in. ran to dealership and they fixed it today. all in all, way faster and smoother than expected. good luck to the rest of you.

One of my replacement lights is in, the other has no ETA. Here’s to another month of driving around winking with one DRL out and another halfway working.

Ridiculous is an understatement. If you’re considering a defender, get the standard lights.

FWIW, My left hand side went out back in January and took my dealer aprox. 3 months to get me a replacement, but just because I complained A LOT with JLR Customer service and with the GM of my dealer. Replaced back in April and every time I looked at the passenger side one I got the chills in thinking it would kaputz right after my warranty expires.

Lo and behold, yesterday driving to work passenger side goes out right after the indicator stops blinking. Called my dealer and set an appointment for this morning. Went in today just hoping to confirm failure and get the part ordered for another 3 month wait. Surprise when I got there, my SA went to check and they had it in stock. Do you want to leave the car to replace? Hell yeah! Just got the call and all replaced and car ready for pick up.

All of this to say, my guess is that there are so many of these failures that JLR may be getting up to speed with their suppliers and the wait times are reducing - hopefully you guys are as lucky as I was. There is hope this parts shortage will end sooner now.

I sincerely hope we won’t be experiencing the same thing in another few years, but I’m not holding my breath. No change to the part #

After having my passenger side finally replaced in May, our drivers side went out in July.

Dealer in Austin said they now have 20-30 lights on hand, so I got it replaced same day, which was nice.

The Service Manager was really nice and talked with me for a bit and said he had heard that the new lights have updated chip boards that should hopefully prevent them from failing again.

So who knows, only time will tell.
