My dealer installed the Explorer Pack, Checker kit, Air Comp, Ladder, Dashcam and Activity Key for about $3000 usd. Was I happy about that, No, will I sleep better at night, probably Yes.
Hi, Did you get the Activity Key installed at the dealer and not at the factory during the build? I had been told that this was a factory only item and cannot be retrofitted if it was not part of the original build.

Good question, it came with the car & from what I read from others it was a 2 hour program charge at the dealer, I will check with them to be sure if it was pre -programmed or not.

Yeah the drilling and getting the wires run are really the challenge with the compressor it seems. I spent half a day getting the rear bumper almost off (could not get around the tow hitch) to install the tow hooks. Personally for me that amount of time spent (and to fail at it to boot) is not worth the time spent.
Oh that's interesting about the reflector. That's a good point, another difference from those videos: powerfuluk's defender doesnt have the tow package, so their detailed video on removing the rear bumper cover is missing some stuff. I'll want to install the tow hooks and lucky8 rear ladder too and my (imaginary) build does have the tow package.

I was going to include the wheel arch protection in my build but couldn't get a straight answer about dealer installation. Left it go, then decided I really liked the looks of them so had the dealer install them. Over $400 for installation but, like others have said, it's on there as dealer install and covered by warranty. Though I no doubt could have put them on myself, the time and hassle was definitely a factor.

yeah exactly. They said to just pull the bumper down after everything was unscrewed/bolted but you cant do that with the tow hitch. I messed my bumper up by trying to pull it down and over the hitch. Im guessing the hitch has to come off...but not sure...

Hey Moretti

Did you remove the small piece of plastic trim in the rear bumper around the hitch? It doesn't feature in the PowefulUK video as they had no hitch so I was wondering if perhaps that is what is needed to clear the hardware with ease. It's the piece between the license plate mount and the hitch itself I'm talking about. I asked a bloke on FB who did the same install of the recovery eyes. His also had the hitch in place and he said he had no issues removing the rear bumper.

I'd be interested to know your process and hopefully avoid similar problems when I install the recovery eyes myself.

I was bummed out that I could add them to the build without including a whole bunch of other stuff I don't care about. Bright pack I think it is.

Thanks for any pointers.

So I read about that piece and it looked like it was removed as a part of the process to install the hitch itself. I will have to take another look to see if there was something I missed.

To be fair about the process I bit off more than I could chew in terms of time and I tried for about 20 minutes to get the bumper off (by myself) without trying to rip it out and struggled, so I hastily bolted/screwed everything back in.

Both items on the wheel arches (amber in the front and red in the back) are not just reflectors, they are actual lights. Ar least that is the case on mine…

That is interesting. Mine (110) are not lights. Those trim pieces can be pulled out as they just snap in. I removed mine when trying to take off the rear bumper. There was no wiring on mine.

Maybe I got a Euro spec!!

Now mine is a 21 model year I think your is 22. Maybe that is the difference. Should not be a trim difference as mine is the base trim… or maybe, just maybe, JLR ran out of lights!
