Well, apparently you are willing to set your bar lower and settle for the Bronco. I watched a video comparing Defender and Bronco, side by side. They opened the hoods on both. Like night and day. Bronco under the hood looks like it went through a blender. An ugly presentation of wires, hoses, devices, gadgetry. Like no thought went into its layout. I’ll take my Defender, any day. Of course, my opinion only. If someone chooses a Bronco, so be it.

I've been thinking about this too. I bought my base 110 in March 2021 off the lot for $52K (base + towing package + climate package + jumpseat + white roof/blue body). It was somebody else's order that didn't end up buying (wild to think of that price today - it sat on the lot for a week+ and they gave me several thousand under MSRP). With all the trim level changes, and if the P300 is limited or unavailable in a Defender, it's hard to imagine getting a Defender for much under $70K. That's a big price discrepancy and lack of option for a more entry level model.

So down the road a few years if the P300 and lower cost options are harder to come by, I actually think they will hold value well. There will always be demand for less expensive versions (assuming the engine proves to be reasonably reliable). So if they are in shorter supply I suspect there will be people willing to pay decently for an "entry" model rather than paying significantly more for the higher trim, larger engine options.

But who knows? Maybe that's just me reassuring myself that it was a good purchase and not a terrible investment (I've loved it so far - 10K miles with no issues, for what it's worth).

exactly this... Bronco is a **** show to order... with no real timelines either... some get it in 3 months some are waiting for 18 months...

Cars, are never a good investment, unless they are classics. However, with shortages and scarcity these Defenders may become classics.
Prices are going silly today on these vehicles, and JLR does jack up the price under the disguise of " supply chain " , or "chips shortage" .... I think in the long run they may hurt the brand or at least the model, but I could be wrong (it happened once or twice in my life ).
I was not a fan (still am not - yet ) of Grenadier, but when my DEFENDER lease is up, I might seriously look at it.
Yes, Grenadier looks kinda cartoonish inside, but ... at least you know what you get from the get go, and there are no gimmics ...like the digital display missing, or clear view mirror, or other things. But, time will tell.

@BRW110 First of all I agree with you that base models should hold their value IF the turbo 4 proves to be reliable. Options added on used cars never hold their value and a base model with key upgrades like air suspension will always hold their value the best for that body style. I think everyone knows that JLR had some teething problems with this engine and I hope that by now they have made the needed changes to make this a reliable engine. I feel like it has more than enough power and pull to work in this model. Based on Wards review it is an award-winning design that truly comes from an objective party. Also, as the engine design is now entering its 5th year of production so they should have all the bugs figured out. Time will tell. Also the following is about the version going into the P300 Per JLR "The new 296HP four-cylinder engine, benefits from the latest Jaguar Land Rover engine technology, including twin-scroll turbos with ceramic ball bearings to reduce friction and a high flow compressor wheel for enhanced performance. The new engine is manufactured at the £500m Jaguar Land Rover Engine Manufacturing Center in Wolverhampton, UK."

I don't see there being much difference. The market currently is a rising tide floating all boats, and while that won't last forever we're not going to see much difference relative to trim level IMO. I agree that at the volume end of the market that low or no-option cars will tend to hold their value better relative to MSRP, but in the more premium market segment that all Defenders play in I believe all models and trims will be sought after and that optioned cars are as likely to be in demand those with fewer options.

Just throwing in a vote ... if it goes anything like the LR3 and LR4, future off-roading owners will pay a premium for the locking eDifferential (and maybe they might prefer the I4).

It has been said by some that most JLR off-road modified versions are second and third owner vehicles.

I've been waiting since the second week of oct to order a defender sooooooooooo...........imho, they both are ****shows

I don't believe that these will ever be collectable. If the new defender proves to be a winner long term, I suspect that they will keep making them as fast as they can. The only reason the old ones are popular is the limited amount that are available in the US.
