I suspect the screw Mcdooogs mentioned is what held me up.
It is certainly doable, but I was nervous the whole way through. In the end, I got there after two and a half hours. The tricky bits:
  • a clip inside the wheel arch that you need to undo after taking the screw out (see image below with purple circle)
  • removing the wheel arch trim without breaking the white clips by pushing the clips through from the back once you’ve lifted away the lining
  • releasing the sides of the bumpers first by gently lifting around the underlying bodywork.
  • removing the rear wheel helped too.

And a simple suggestion:
  • don’t detach the cabling on the left, just swivel and rest on a suitable platform (second photo).
I have the D300 with tow bar and all the parking sensors. I didn’t count the screws removed, but PowerfulUK’s video identifies them all I think. You know you’ve removed everything needed when the bumper can rotate upwards when you pull gently on it. Then it is just the clips along the top holding it on, and a firm tug separates them. If you have mudguards, you’ll need to undo the screws holding them to the body work (basically, remove them).

Thanks to those who posted in this thread, it was very helpful.

I removed and reinstalled the rear bumper this evening, with rear mudflaps and tow package, rear mudflaps make it more difficult.

Installed the rear tow hooks, and extra reverse lights.

I’ll echo the experiences in which a mighty tug (or two, or three) might be needed to pull the bumper cover from the rear door area. Given how hard it was to pull the cover rearward, I was concerned that I had missed some steps and/or the 90 was a bit different. But alas, all I had to do was tug super hard. Would have been ideal to have two people working on it so that the cover didn’t jerk outward as much when it finally gave way.

Got to laugh as this is what I did with mine - only I went to an independent shop. Afterwards, I asked how they got it off. The answer: "pull on it as if you didn't own it".

Outch. As a newbee to LR and L663 in particular, I did not have the guts to pull that firmly on the bumper when I tried to follow the instructions of the video created by PowerfulUK. After >2 hours with bruises all over my hands from (firmly? pulling) I ended up the same way as the other guy: refitting all the screws and soon I will ask some independent garage guy to help me ... and will probably get the same answer

One other question: when I remofed the screws close to the exhaust/heat sheet, I figured out that there is one broken U-shaped plastic clip (a white one) which makes it hard to remove the screw. Does anyone know where to get such clips online? Anyone knows a part number, maybe? Or, can Iit just be replaced by a random metal version?

Many thanks, Mike

I know location is important, nut I had the front OEM skid plate put on by Sarek. They let you in the shop and watch. Most dealers give you yesterdays coffee and have you wait in the used car lot. Watching gives one some confidence on next project.

If you mean the clip below, the part number is LR082683

Thanks for the quick response.
Actually I am looking for a different clip, it's more like the one here:
