Default Driver Door Projection Light

My 2025 X-Dynamic is almost 4 months old and for the first time last evening when I opened the door to exit I was looking down at a Defender logo lit up to look like a doormat. Can someone please tell me how I can permanently turn this off without having to purchase a Gap tool. Thanks!

You can try two options, the easy way and the hard way. Disassemble the mirror and disconnect the wire to the ‘puddle light’, as it is formally called. Or you could put a piece of black tape over it. But I feel inclined to weigh in on the fact that it took four months for you to notice it, so I question how obtrusive is actually is, causing you to coin it a ‘doormat’. Also I, and most others enjoy this feature, as it does exactly what its name describes. It’s better than stepping into a puddle in the dark, or onto uneven ground where one could tweak an ankle, or someone’s dog droppings. I’ve gotten many raised eyebrows and compliments on its appearance, as it is a unique feature not often seen. But you apparently don’t warm to it, so, your vehicle, your choice.

Thanks. First time it appeared, no clue why ... I turned off the Home lighting option in settings, will see if that works next time its dark, otherwise will live with it. Regards

I used a piece of black tape. I didn't like the puddle light at all. I wish you could modify it, but alas...

Yes, has not appeared before this no matter how dark and this time only the drivers side. From the comments this sounds like a software quirk.

PowerfulUK at one point was exploring ways to customize this display into one that the end user could choose their own personal display. He had dissected the entire mirror and removed the extremely tiny chip which broadcast the display onto the ground, but IIRC he hadn’t found a way to produce an interchangeable one. I’ll delve further.
