Default Dumb-assed question about the parking brake

Just recieved my 90 X this week and I've been pouring through the manual. I've never owned a Land Rover before and this is significantly different than other brands I've owned. Question on the electric parking brake is not covered by the manual that I can find.

When I engage P on the shifter, is the parking brake automatically set? I only ask because if I depress the parking brake button, it doesn't seem to engage anything, and releasing the parking brake lever by pulling on the tab appears to do nothing either. What am I missing?

Parking break automatically engages when selecting Park in my wife’s Velar and I just saw a Defender “customer handover” video this morning which mentions the same feature. Don’t ask why I was watching the JLR YouTube vid.

This. Put it in neutral and then use the parking brake controls if you want to see them work.

The Defender parking brake locked down computer logic is a point of design disagreement between me and JLR.

Yes, it goes on automatically. Yes, the button while dual directional does not function that way as the vehicle seems possessed to be "safe" at all costs and lock the darn thing.

It happened again, just today -- the parking brake cannot be turned off with the door open. If you try to trick it, the vehicle goes into neutral so one cannot move it. Then, if you want to go back or forward, you still must have the door closed, an must move it into gear.

Sorry, but in the mountains, backing up to steep drops is required (tight spaces) and now the darn vehicle won't let me hang out the door and exactly look at what the rear tire is doing when backing up. Yes, I use the cameras -- but, its just not the same. You cannot hear as well, for one thing with your head inside the vehicle.

Si la vie...... Enjoy !!
