It seems like JLR is giving all their mechanics the same training, on how to lose customer’s engine cover retaining grommets. They lost mine on two occasions. I went back and gave my service advisor an earful; if they can’t put my engine cover back on without losing parts, how can I feel confident with them performing intricate repairs. I ‘suggested’ he go back to his parts department and procure some to replace those they lost. When I got home I put a dab of glue on the receiving part of the engine cover before replacing the grommet. I also put a tiny dab of vaseline, or you could use some di-electric grease or similar to allow the grommet to easily slide onto the plastic stud without too much resistance. I believe that is exactly what causes these to become dislodged in the first place. The mechanic, when finishing his service probably slaps the cover in place and bangs it down with force, knocking the grommet out of the retainer.
And to speak to the haphazard work being done these days, yesterday I replaced the 12V battery myself, third battery in just over four years, and when I got into the battery compartment under the passenger’s seat, I found that on the battery previously replaced by the dealer, they neglected to attach the vent tube to the replacement battery leaving it flopping around in the battery compartment. Maybe they’re trained to forget that too.

I paid 4X the independent price for an oil change at the dealer (as it was still under warranty). Tech forgot to reset the "change oil soon" message and I had to wait around another 40 minutes for them to find somebody to finish the job (yes, I'm aware that there's a complex customer process to reset the light - but I had just paid them to do the job properly).
Amazingly the customer survey which I normally receive the next day after any work at the dealer failed to show up.
I'm happy to be moving to having all work done at an independent going forward.
Seems no difference b/t the 2 part numbers. Neither supersedes the other in BMW’s system but both are listed as compatible for a 2025 BMW M2, so they appear to interchange.
Well these that I posted about don’t fit -- 1) too big to fit in the holders in the engine cover and 2) the pin receptacles are too big to snugly fit on the engine mounting posts. So - don’t buy them like I did. There’s a chance Amazon just sent me the wrong ones bc I ordered a 10 pack and received a 4 pack... but
I’m going to try the VW/Skoda/Audi ones a few posts above now. "4X Engine Cover Mounting Rubber Grommet 07C103226B 06J103226A For Audi VW Skoda” . Note it comes with 3 of the correct size and 1 of a random too small size: .
I measured the remaining one on my car. Exactly 23.5 mm diameter by 15mm height.
This is what does NOT work - what I posted above -- These are 30mm wide, too big. (BMW part numbers are 13717588501 &/or 11147799108.
Furthermore, when I install them I’m going to dab a bit of sikaflex in there so they don’t fall out. No reason to ever remove them from the engine cover.
