If you are going to use the roof rack then get the OEM. I use all front runner stuff on mine had a hell of a time finding the t bolts for it but now we know that etrailer.com has them. If you are going to take it overlanding use the front runner one everything will just be easier to mount. I am 306 pounds on a good day and the OEM ladder holds me no problem.
@DefenderSISU@DefenderSisu1 How did you get the 2 green Scepter plastic 20L to fit into the double Frontrunner Jerry Can mount (I am 99.99% sure that is what I see in your pic above here---?)_ They say it won’t work on their site but this is exactly what I’m hoping to do!). Just curious. What doesn’t work about it -- but I clearly see them working in your pic there ! I think you needed to get t-nuts to secure the mount to the rack - but - what about the water containers wouldn’t work in the mount?
Anyone have a Front Runner Rack on a 130 that only used the rear tray? Would love to retain use of the sunroof and wondering what it looks like / if just using the rear tray cuts down on wind noise etc.
Can anyone confirm my assumption. Tried searching other threads so thought I would post here.
I'm interested in ordering a OEM Expedition Roof Rack for my MY23 Defender. I'm thinking of ordering the roof rack that is option on the OCTA trim because to it is an all black finish (railing included) over the earlier rack with aluminum railing. Anyone know for sure? Thank you!
You can now get the expedition rack with black bars from JLR new -- it’s just a different part #. (and ladder with black rungs, and painted black side box for that matter)
The black rack isn’t Octa specific or has anything to do with the “Octa” btw.
BTW my preference after having older JLR vehicles with black roof bars (RRS, etc) is for the silver bars, because the black bars scrape up visibily if you actually use them -- on both the ladders and the racks. Be warned..
This is relatively new btw that you’re able to spec and buy the black bar ones.... used to only be available from the aftermarket. JLR got on the bandwagon.
In poking around their website, I do believe JLR is only now offering the black expedition racks on new vehicles - just FYI. But I’m sure the silver bar versions are still available in the parts system. Maybe they stopped making silver bar versions? (which seems odd)
Thank you, nashvegas for the insight. You bring up a great point - with that being said I think will opt for the earlier silver bars. Just called my dealer and they have both
