Extended warranty
The dealer quoted me $7,000 (JLR Riverside), which now I'm glad I didn't get it from them seeing what others are offered. There was no markup on the vehicle, but apparently they marked up the extended warranty. I'll probably call around to other dealers to see what they're quoting. Not sure how long I will keep the car. I absolutely love it so far, so maybe longer than I usually keep cars which is about 4-5 years on average. The car I owned the longest was 7 years.
You're right, I didn't think about it costing more for the V8. I will still call around.
FWIW I bought my 2020 Defender a year and half ago with 40k on the clock. I'm not the biggest fan on 3rd party warranties but the dealer, Riverside LR which is owned by the Indigo group said they use 3rd party warranty Autoxcel for all of the cars in their lineup including Bentley, Porsche, etc yada sales talk. So I bought 5/yr 100k mile warranty. I've just scheduled a service visit to LR Portland at the end of the month to check my rear diff for the dreaded clunking noise. I'll keep you posted on how it is handled but I have very little faith with this dealer and my past experience.
Hey NV
It is through the LR dealer and it is a 3rd party, but Jim said it was as close to factory as they can get. It's also transferable to the next owner if you sold it privately. I am going for the platinum one which covers just about everything for 3 additional years or 85k miles. Its doesn't obviously cover wear items like pads, discs etc.

Hi- Would it be possible for you to post a picture of that pamphlet? Or is there a website listed on it for the info? I just bought a 2024 130 and my dealer quoted a crazy number fo an extended warranty and he couldn’t tell me if it was the official JLR warranty or not so I passed. It’s hard to find anything online about the official warranty.
Thanks for the help

I just enquired with my Land rover dealer In Portland, OR, USA on extending my 2021,110 HSE defender.
In March of 2025 my main warranty expires and so I am looking to purchase an additional 3 years. I have 24,500 on the clock and was told I have to pull the trigger under 25,000 in order for it to be valid.
I was quoted $4250 for 3 years(with an excess/deductable of $250) additional coverage and the platinum extended warranty offered covers nearly all the same parts as the original LR factory warranty.
I think I'm going to go for it as I want that peace of mind in case anything goes wallop. Hope this helps.

this sounds like a sales pitch I’d be cautious of…

Mechanically, it seems the Defender is very reliable in contrast with all the fire recalls and engine failures with new Toyota’s. I’m not sure I’d pay for an extended warranty at this time. I could change my mind if the data changes over the next couple of years.
It’s good that the warranty you shared is JLR administered warranty. None of the 20 or so dealers I called would initially say or acknowledge that their “warranty” wasn’t JLR. They were all through their dealership group. Pure profit. I would only buy manufacturer official warranty, no dealer/dealer group warranty that is null and void if the dealer group has financial issues or goes out of business.
