Sadly, I think this is a "standard" feature. Perhaps someone over at Defender.Net has found a way to reset it using the GAP tool. I "discovered" this after I bought the PowerfulUK footwell upgrade lights. I LOVED how bright they made things getting in. Then when they didn't turn off I decided to swap back. Now I have them dim when I get in and dim when I drive!! Arg.... If you find a way to kill them, please post! I may go back to the PowerfulUk upgrade that is lying next to the other bits & pieces I have stored away.

I don't think it's normal. I've seen videos where they operate as follows:
1)the footlights turn on bright when you open the doors to enter and then reduce to very dim/hardly on. (Mine don't come on when doors open at all.)
2) If you turn headlights on, footwells come on dim. (Mine come on full blast.)
3) if headlights are off, no footwell lights. (Mine do this)

#1 and #2 are faulty in my car.
