I don't think New Defender Mods (the aussie distributor) would run a Black Friday sale to be honest. Will look into it though.

Soo the fact I've got a 24' D300 X diminishes the value of the tool for me?

  • Global Open
  • On demand eLift/ eLower
  • Home maintenance like brake flushing can be completed
  • View live values of things on your phone. Handy when airing up.
  • Park assist
  • Leveling for camping
I would like to clarify a few of the features you mentioned. Ones I am confused about I left in the quote ^^^

Just but it directly from GAP Diagnostic. They'll ship anywhere.

I have a 2020 Defender X and I have the Gap tool. Albeit I bought it for my LR4 and transferred it to my Defender. Yes the only I used the tool for is auto stop start off, added WiFi, global opening and dynamic mode. So a fully loaded X the value diminishes.

However for me I bring it with me on any long trip in the back country for piece of mind. I had my LR4 had a suspension fault in the middle of camping the tool allowed me to come back home so it has already paid for itself.

@GavinC Leveling for camping! I'm banging my head against the screen. Why didn't I use that feature for the many times camping the last few years!

Something that goes into my determination of whether or not its worth the price - is what can be done via the GAP tool on the various trim levels of the Defender. For example, obviously my SE with the coil springs doesn't have ride height adjustment possible... however I understand that all Defenders have the hardware necessary to enable adaptive cruise control.

I'm curious whether things like Dynamic Modes, Terrain Response 2 and the offroad cruise control features are available as well regardless of trim level. The documentation on GAP's website indicates the modules that it can interface with, but not "what can you do with what trim level".

I miss typed earlier

Global open is standard on all.
Global close is disabled in North America market. We’re.not to be trusted with such power. That’s a handy feature to activate.

I don't doubt that ECU's have been bricked by a programmer. But let's be clear that a person that deals with a lot of service vehicles and says he's seen a lot of bricked ECUs probably has, but were they caused specifically by the GAP tool? It's more probable that he's seeing many different tools being used and some are better than others.
I've got the Ross-Tech software for my VAG vehicles and it is not a user friendly tool. The GAP tool is way more iPhone rather than Python terminal. As long as you follow the instructions, don't panic and pull the tool out mid data send, etc...

I find it handy to have. I have cleared a couple weird faults that would have either required a dozen starts to clear, or a trip to the dealer. (door locks stopped sensing the key). 5 minutes to reset, done.

Simon's video last week with real time analysis of every cylinder firing and being able to detect exactly which cylinder was dead was very handy.

I will agree that if you aren't a techy person, and you just want to thumb in some changes that it might not be a great idea to do it unsupervised. But if you are cautious, make changes with purpose and remember that you can always change everything back to stock... it's worth it to me.

Just the fact I didn't have to spend $1200 for trailer assist only to find out that it's a gimick I wouldn't use was worth it. Oh and that whole stop start button thing being permanently disabled... love it. Oh and adaptive cruise... I added that as well. and shutting off the seatbelt minder so I can idle around the marina without that constant bonging...

I have been using the gap tool since 2017, it’s worth every penny.

If a gap tool has bricked a truck it was due to the user doing something absolutely off the wall. It’s idiot proof I know I’m the idiot that they planned for😂

User support in my experience has been excellent with them even assisting me in trouble shooting a vehicle. Your mileage may vary but in my experience it makes owning a newer land rover tolerable

lots of companies have come and gone in this niche product market Gap and a couple others are the only that have hung in there

Yes, all of these features can be activated as long as they aren't optioned from the factory. You will have to either know everything your car was ordered with or check the CCF files to know what can/can't be activated. I ordered mine with TR2, ATPC and Configurable Terrain Response, so those features couldn't be activated. Only the P525 V8 and P500 SE/X-Dynamic SE trims have Dynamic mode, but it can be activated on all other Defenders. Dynamic mode makes a pretty big difference on my P300. Better throttle response, heavier steering, stiffer shocks (when equipped with air suspension), quicker gear changes, rev-matching downshifts and it will hold the gears longer. Put the gearbox in S while in Dynamic mode and everything other than the steering & suspension I mentioned gets dialed up to 11.
