Gap IID Tool - Worth it?
That's weird. On my '25 Range Rover I can chose via a menu option under "Convenience" if I want global open AND close. I'm in US.
Perhaps RR is different. I’ve no knowledge of that platform.
Easy to test and verify for you of course.
It works on my RR. And this is from the manual specific to my VIN:
Global opening allows the vehicle to be unlocked and all windows opened simultaneously.
Press and hold the unlock button on the smart key for 3 seconds to initiate global opening. Press and release any button on the smart key to cancel global opening.
Global closing allows the vehicle to be locked and all the windows closed simultaneously.
Press and hold the lock button on the exterior door handle for 3 seconds to initiate global closing. Press and release the button to cancel global closing.
Global opening and closing can be enabled or disabled via the touchscreen, as follows:
- Touch the settings icon.
- Select Vehicle.
- Select Convenience.
- Select Windows.
- Touch the Global Open or Global Close toggles to switch on or off.
Maybe this doesn't work on Defenders as there aren't door handle buttons.

Pivi is pretty much the same on both. Maybe some flags are enabled and others aren't compared to RR.

It’s a simple long press on unlock/lock.
it is simply disabled in the Defender. Global close not applicable unless it’s unlocked in CCF in N America.
As I said, my info only pertains to Defender. If you have Global opening verified on your NAS RR Ifrom factory, have no data to question your veracity.
I am nonetheless skeptical
I tested it again today and it works as stated in the manual.
As long as the menu options are turned on, both global functions work on the Range Rover.
The difference is global open works with the 3 second hold on the keyfob unlock button, while the global close only works when pressing and holding the button at any door handle, not the fob.
If I let go of the door handle button, the global close stops. All windows, sunshade and sunroof open and close using these functions.
If the Defender has door handle buttons maybe you should give it a try and see if it works. On the Range Rover that's the only way to use global close. Pressing and holding the fog button lock does not engage the global close. The buttons of any door handle do.

The door button global close is a standard feature
Yep, since US is a sue-happy nation they probably made this feature available only when you consciously and purposely press and keep pressing down on the door handle button for the global close. If you crush someone's fingers or chop off your pet's neck, they can't be blamed and/or have a class action suit moved against them. Heck, many years back the woman who couldn't handle a cup of hot coffee inside her car sued McDonald's for it...

I enormously enjoy the convenience of chopping fingers off remotely via the key fob. Thank you GAP IID.
Since people who aren’t having issues rarely comment about it… mine has been perfect.
No car play issues, no weird stuff going on, everything seems fine. It’s been a great rig so far and has done everything I’ve asked of it (with plenty of scuffs from off-road trails, hauling stuff in the back, on the roof, pulling a trailer, etc.)…
I have a gap tool for mine and I have made minor configuration tweaks with it. It seems like a very nice diagnostic tool which I recommend for anyone with a need to wrench on their own stuff or might want to make some minor tweaks to dial in their experience.
Sounds like some people don’t have that same good experience. That sucks for them and life’s too short to put up with that. In my opinion, they should sell their lemon and find something else that does what they want.
