This thread makes my brain hurt. There is no way it doesn't hit coming in but hits going out...

Most garage door openers have an up limit set height. Unless it's already all the way, could be adjusted up.

The sad thing is the garage door guy who is suggesting replacing the door, when he could merely adjust the limit switches on the opener in mere minutes. Call another garage door service, this one is not honest, in my opinion. There are a lot of crooks out there. Saw a YouTube video where they moved the sensor which stops the door from closing when the sensor does not line up with the receiver, usually about ankle height and called several repairmen out for an estimate. The majority gave estimates for all manner of repairs and replacements, and a few merely bent it back into place and said ‘no charge’. Once I got a call from my wife while I was away informing me that a spring had broken and she called for repairs, which cost over $600. They replaced all kinds of parts not needed, and I priced a replacement spring at around $50. Be wary.

You are not wrong!!

Garage door repair is one of the top 5 most shady of all Google search results. There are dozens of shell companies that create multiple business listings each to grab search traffic and aggregate it back to a single call center.

Locksmiths and tow services are the worst. They try to get you when you need them the most.

Lol, I'm sure I deserve it for running my bucket about other off-the-wall things anyway but thank you.

Big shout out to you OP for having your fiancé hold the door up while you backed the car up and not the other way around 😂

If you have a stand alone garage, it is actually pretty simple to raise the garage up, rent a couple bottle jacks , lift the walls and add some pressure treated 2x4 or 4x4 between the top of the foundation and the sill plate of the existing wall.

I did not ever think to look at doing this till yesterday evening. Thanks for sharing the info.

Got about an extra inch of clearance now after adjusting the set point. Let's face it, who doesn't want more inches?

For years my roof box has just touched the garage door. No biggie as it's bendy but my ski rack is less forgiving.
