Has anyone used in their defender the garmin tread xl in 10” or 8” ? I will be taking a trip to Alaska and wanted some feedback from a user. I was planning on getting a satellite communicator but when I went to the Garman website, I found this. And this is better in my unused opinion than having a separate GPS and a satellite communicator one less thing I have to worry about. Thank you for your comments. Looking forward to your feedback..
I don't have one but do have a Garmin inReach. Very useful two way sat-communicator. If the excrement hits the fan you'd be able to communicate with whoever you want via text. Tiny and light weight. Great peace of mind when out in the boonies.
Ditto on inReach. We did 17 weeks in AK and I used it 2 ways. First was to drop a waypoint at every camp. Second was when I was off solo fishing or whatever and kept DW uptodate. Never needed the Oh Shoot mode, but I have faith as it’s comm speed is quick.
Pretty sure the Tread has the same messaging/sos capabilities as the inReach line built in. I balked at the price, but I did look into getting the Tread xl to supplement/replace the built in navigation with more extensive offroad maps and mostly RV routing (so limiting routes to what my travel trailer can do).
i did pick up the inReach mini 2 instead, mainly for emergencies. Recommend having something with that SOS oh **** button for sure
Apologies for not commenting on the Garmin Tread, but I have another positive review for the in reach, as I use it hunting. Drop pins for my wife to see camp and send a message when back safe for the night. Works great for those purposes.
