love the new defender 110 pic! you even have steel wheels! defenders should be out having fun.. i'm scouting out a new 110 now but am hung up on roof design. does that large panoramic window open (for cabin airflow?) thanks for into on Grenadier. I'll go i6, so I can't do your great looking steel wheels; i can choose 19'' aluminum rims - close enough for me

I have seen a few Rivian SUVs by me, and they look OK. One review I read on them summed up the basic problem: they weigh what a Suburban weighs - no wooden bridge crossing for you in New Hampshire! The basic drawback I have to EVs today is that the EV marketing department seems to spend all their time with 0-60 mph stats, and top speed. The battery packs don't need to bolt me ahead 0-60 in 3 seconds - I will pay $0 for that feature, as I need a family capable SUV, not a race car. Second, I've heard some stories about how difficult it can be to fix an EV. Not just mechanically, but body work, if you get in a fender bender. I have no issue with folks buying and dealing with those issues if they enjoy the process, but for me, I'd find it frustrating. When I have an issue, I go to my LR dealer and they fix it. As for the focus on speed by EVs at this point, I also have no issue with friends that own Teslas. They love the acceleration capable on an EV, but they also have enough money to have another SUV for family trips. I don't, so my SUV has to be fairly large, capable, and comfortable. new 110 Defender seems to check all the boxes. the Grenadier is probably too small inside; it's a great choice for Wrangler shoppers, but it has to be matched to the right buyer, and I'm likely better suited in new defender.

What was that about the 100hp drop? I haven't compared the Ineos to the Defender models. I better start paying attention.

Yeah, it's crazy. Both are 3 liter Inline Turbocharged sixes. P400 makes 395/405. Grenadier makes 281/332. So it's not like they tuned it for big torque at the expense of some ponies. It gives up 114 hp AND 73 torx. How do you even do that? 1998 called and wants its turbo I6 back. Heck, my wife's little GLC300 Benz gets 255/295 out of a 2.0 four.

Do you need 400bhp in a vehicle like a Grenadier? Would the chassis cope with that much power and still be predictable on the road?

My decision is based on how often I use WOT in the P400; if I were in a Grenadier in all of those situations, I would effectively have a P300. And yes, I need the 400, or else I'd have saved myself $10,000.

So essentially, I'd be paying $5000 more than my P400 for on-road performance most likely equivalent (at best) to a P300. I might be willing to overlook that if all the other factors were a homerun for me, but they weren't. Don't get me wrong, I love the mechanical, analog nature of the Ineos (see the bit above where I just bought my JK Wrangler back.) But for my main road-going SUV, I like a little bit of juice.

Cheers!

Supposed to be detuned for any **** gas you can throw in it.

I'm starting to believe it has something to do with that 15 mpg number. Add that hp & torque back and what are they in single digit mpg?

Ineos de-tuned the BMW B58. I have this motor in my X3 and it produces almost 400 bhp.

Well, l've got a D250 and in six months l've had it WOT twice

Both times were not necessary, l just wanted to see what it would do.

We also tow a caravan with the vehicle so it's not just solo.

l don't know where l could safely unleash 400bhp except maybe to beat someone away from the traffic light, but l am sadly past that kind of thing.

Come to Florida. You'll need it just to keep up. Merging into angry traffic, dealing with people on their phones on long 2-lane roads, and passing righteous indignation doing 5 under the limit in the left lane when everyone else is doing 15 over. If you aren't riding someone's ***, it's your *** that gets the ride.
