I like the simplicity of the HUD on my Defender. One of the cool features is actual speed alongside the posted speed. Keeps me out of trouble!

FWIW, YMMV

Big fan of the HUD. It is limited on what is displayed, however. It does a great job with the ****-poor PiviPro nav, but unfortunately does not transfer the MUCH better nav of your choice on CarPlay. It does adjust up/down if you mess around with the HUD settings and it does adjust brightness with the lights. I think it will also adjust with the dash light dial on the left (US spec), but can't recall. I typically have it showing the speed and the cruise control speed. It will also show the bars for the ACC. If you switch to any of the off-road choices, other than comfort, it will shift to a cool 4x4 mode. Oh, and I think it changes in Dynamic mode as well. I need to reconfirm that.

Thank you all for the replies. Very informative!

I'm eager to learn about additional HUD experiences.

Regarding CarPlay Nav support for HUD, I believe it's going to happen since it's technically possible according to Apple's Developer documentation:

I guess I'll be the only "no" vote on HUD?! I appreciate that on my 110 build - in production - I was able to decline the feature and put the money elsewhere (like the better seats!) I tested a LC that had it, and personally, for me, not helpful. Why? Basically, I travel the same roads constantly, and with the congestion and nature of the roads, I really don't need anything on the windshield telling me the speed limit is 35 mph or whatever. I don't really look at the speedometer or tac when I drive anyways - I watch out for the car in front that's likely texting & crazy bicyclists - that's about it. The roads don't really allow for reckless speed demons, so I just go with the traffic. I found HUD to be a complete distraction. I think if you're always in a new place, maybe it's helpful? IDK. I prefer to keep the windshield free of all distractions - but that's just me Also, without the HUD, the front dash is totally flat. There's no cut out where the HUD would be so it's preferable to having the whole in the dash for the HUD and not using it.

Completely disagree with you on this one. The purpose of a HUD is to minimize distractions by putting basic information right in your line of sight so you don't have to take your eyes off the road. You can have just the speed readout, or you can have other features like driver assist, off-road telemetry and more. Sure, it can get distracting depending on what you have displayed, but overall I take my eyes off the road a lot less with the HUD. To each their own, though!

We will mostly disregard your feedback since you wasted so much bandwidth trashing the Defender and bigging up the GX550 that you never bought anyway,

To the OP. Have it, love it, would/will order again.

How do we make this happen, Land Rover?

Lack of Apple CarPlay Nav support for HUD is why I stopped using CarPlay. I much prefer the map layout in the instrument cluster and the Nav support in HUD for the factory Nav vs no HUD and crappy map layout in the instrument cluster Apple CarPlay.

Thanks again, that tip worked great.
I was able to adjust it all the way down and it is much better now.
Before it was in a position based on the sight angle with it up high on the glass, it had some distortion in it, now all seems crisp and clear like it should be.
