Headlight DRL Replacement
Hi All,
How much are you willing to pay for a DRL replacement?
I've done 6 already for friends and they have compensated me.
I already have 5 headlights that I can repair on an exchange basis.
The problem right now is freight is insane.
I repaired my own headlights and they they are as good as new.
Thanks,
Brian

New lenses or reusing the same lenses? And if so - are the new lenses as good of quality as the original equip? I ask as this would factor into what I’d pay.
I’d say if new lenses, with the repair, with shipping, I’d pay $800 for the set if my own headlamps were returned unbroken with brand new lenses, a warranty on the repair (1 year?) and nicely boxed and good customer service. All day long.
If not new lenses, I’d stomach $400 with shipping. $300 locally. Maybe $400 locally. Maybe $600 with shipping. IDK. Hard to say really. If it were under $1000 I’d probably still think about it but around $400-600 seems right to me.
Something I’ve heard anecdotally is that some of the repairs are lasting like ... oh... a month with the Alibabwa boards. how has your experience been?
I just paid last year $1200 to have new lenses put on 911 headlamps. Annoying to be honest. Those have a clear coat that delaminates if a mosquito pisses on them -- and look like garbage. No LED issues like our Deefers. But there’s a heavy Porsche 911 tax. That was with shipping. 1 week turnaround. Perfect. Lenses as good or better than Genuine new pOrsche. As opposed to 6K for new headlamps so it makes the $1200 an easy decision.
Flame away. I’m sure some people will say $100.

It's a 30 minute job to swap out a defective headlight for new. e-bay sells them for anywhere from 300-500$ shipped. These are OEM lights. Mine was $374 or something. Inc taxes and shipping. Can you better that by a big margin with an Alibaba repair
Repair costs about $5 to swap out the DRL module and some new sealant on the split apart clamshell. Tricky part is the split and seal without børking up the parts too badly.
I'd be willing to pay $50 for a broken headlight. $100 for a repaired one. But Im a cheap SOB so prefer to do my own simple repairs.
Hard to better what ebay offers on this simple job.

TATA allowing this to become a cottage industry isn't the best look. I can't figure out why these things haven't been fully recalled by now. Maybe it's one of TATA's own suppliers making these headlights or something... Daewoo?
Bimmer guys have some issues with them (projector bowl).

I wish they'd go back to Valeo as an OEM headlight supplier. They never had any issues and they made the headlight assembly in my old LR4 as well as the full LED headlights in my D5, which were much better than the Premium LED headlights in my Defender.
