Cold weather and moisture is definitely not friendly for folding mirrors.
Both the folding mirrors and winter mode wipers are key in MN winters. Seeing parked cars (SUVs usually) on snow congested streets with missing mirrors on the driver's side is a common sight in the Twin Cities. The wiper mode is so that you can lift them off of the windshield so that brushing snow off when returning to your parked car is a little easier.

I had my defender in for its annual service and I asked about disabling the folding mirrors during cold wet weather, and yes they can be disabled but that is it. There is no way for the owner of the vehicle to disable or enable this feature, all or nothing, just like Sarek said. That is not good and Land Rover should be able to provide this feature via a software update. LR, please do this.

There is no official way to diasable auto folding mirrors while locking or unlocking. You can disable the folding mirrors all together, but then, they will not fold in when you press the mirror buttons. So, currently it is all or nothing. I may have found a setting that finally will disable the folding during locking. I will report back after i test on mine
You are correct by saying they can be disabled from folding all together. That really sucks...The Land Rover dealership disabled mine while my vehicle was in for service, and as you said, I cannot reverse it on my own. It seems Land Rover can easily add this feature via a software update.

My mirrors didn't successfully fold open today after a freezing night in this subzero Midwest storm. Made some sad electric motor noises before failing
Would be an easy option to integrate into Pivi I imagine.

I like hearing them crunch as they close in the ice. Solid motors with insane torque by the sounds of it.

I wouldn't sweat the small stuff.
