How do I get the Brake hold feature to stay turned off?
‘I can’t see any benefit of that hold feature, especially on an automatic transmission vehicle. Maybe a hill start on a manual transmission vehicle.
I really appreciate the info, seems the GAP tool I ordered, really is a must have device for LR owners. It’s needed just to shut off some of this silly stuff. Lol
I personally love the on demand auto hold, once you know it's there I've never accidentally activated it. I only use it at traffic lights, even if not on a hill I find the car takes off more smoothly specially if you are giving it a bit more pedal. the auto setting is a parking nightmare however.

It makes my starts and stops from a stop light a lot more jerky whenever that brake hold function is activated.
I think for me after 40+ years of driving and nothing really ever having this Brake Hold feature, it would just be easier for me to shut it off entirely.
That way the Defender operates more like all my other vehicles.
If that makes any sense.
I am sure it is something I could get use to at some point. Problem I have is owning several vehicles and this being the only one that does this brake hold thing.

The fact that the "auto" mode is enabled by default is stupid and gives a bad first impression, it's terrible, and almost caused me to hit my garage when I first brought the car home trying to park it. You can't creep forward with it active so I usually only use it when I'm first in line, or I know there will be a bit of a wait before moving. If it randomly turned on for me like yours does I'd want it gone too.

Iceman153: Apparently this feature stirs up quite a bit of angst, while others enjoy it. I also use it for certain purposes and find it helpful in those circumstances, it becomes second nature and I’ve never activated it unless I choose to. It’s much easier to use it judiciously than it is to bemoan its existence. For those that can’t live with it, that’s where the GAP tool comes in. The GAP tool maker is smiling all the way to the bank.

My hate for this feature comes from hitching my trailer. It incessantly activates in and off as I carefully back in to line up when hitching or positioning the trailer. It’s possible that it is because I am on a slight grade and it think it is helping but it really isn’t. I use low range to ease the load on things while backing up and even with slight steady throttle application you can hear the parking brakes cycling on and off while creeping into position. Disabling this will be the very first thing I do when my GAP tool arrives. Well perhaps after I finish my oil change and service indicator reset.

With or without tool.
Lo range for tiny movements hooking up a trailer. Genius. Thank you for the tip.

It makes sense that it shouldn’t be and yet it does.
I have the auto hold in my quick settings and I have tried both with the circle filled/unfilled since it seems to be applying regardless of which way it is set.
The only way I can prevent it from coming on is to continuously apply and ever so slightly feather the throttle (low range, reverse, slight grade). If I don’t it immediately applies which makes me think it is some sort of grade sensitive holding feature combined with brake hold.
I am aware of what pressure is normally required to activate a hold at a light and I am no where near that level at any point.
For overall context I am not hitching up that often but enough that I will disable this when given the chance.
