I recently installed these
Chinese OEM-like side steps from Amazon Chinese OEM-like side steps from Amazon
on my Defender 90 and my install time tracks with those above: about 2-3 careful hours on the first side, half that on the second - all without power tools. FWIW, I did install all the bracket bolts, which required removal of the side trim and replacement of the clips, but I think it's worth the extra time to do it right.

One thing to note if you're installing on a D90 and plan to remove the trim to get access to all the bolts:
Be extra careful on the small piece of side trim directly in front of the rear wheels and behind the doors. It's actually two pieces (an inner and an outer), glued together as one. Depending on where/how you pull it off, you might get lucky, or you might only pull off the outer half, leaving the rest of it attached to the car. For whatever reason, both left and right sides came apart on mine, with half coming apart in my hands, and the other half sticking to the car. Nothing a little epoxy and a handful of c-clamps can't fix before reinstalling. Not a big deal if it happens, but just be aware that the trim can -- and does -- split in two if you're not careful/lucky when pulling things apart.

Good luck with the install!

A Milwaukee Multi-Tool would have saved me 30 minutes on the installation of the Hunters Prestige side steps for my 110. A Dremel worked, but it was a pain. Taking the trim off to attach the brackets on the side was not a big deal.

LOL, I used it as an excuse to purchase the Ryobi multi-tool to add to my vast collection of 18V tools. It certainly made things easier/faster.

It took me about 3 hours…but that’s because all I had on hand were a pair of tin snips to cut the plastic. Definitely do NOT recommend those. Probably would’ve taken 1-1.5hrs (including mistakes) tops with a handier cutting tool. Would recommend a pair of eye protection and maybe a thin mask. A decent amount of dried gunk fell out when pulling down the plastic rocker trim as I was cutting it and mine’s never been off-road. Can only imagine it’d be worse for vehicles which have.

Check eBay for side steps. They’re the same ones as on Amazon and half the price.

I ticked the fixed side step option when I ordered my '26 110 V8 to be delivered in June, so factory install. Ironically they don't offer the classic mud flaps as a factory installed option for the '26 model. Not via customer selection nor dealer request in the order. The config sheet the dealer showed me has "Mud Flaps - DELETE" and they can't switch to anything different in their system. I'd obviously prefer all those to be installed at the factory.

that sounds right. I had mine done at the dealer. My sales guy was a friend and he quoted me that.

Not that it really matters, but my understanding is that all of the accessories ordered when new are actually installed by a team at the port of entry when the vehicle arrives in its new home country. At least that's the way it was done a couple of years back. Either way, it is nice to have all the work done before taking delivery by professionals who have done it hundreds/thousands of times before.

Correct, my dealer checked if the mud flaps could be installed at the port of entry but no game. The fixed side steps are done at the factory though. I'm not sure why not the mud flaps, maybe to prevent damages during shipping, idk...

The side steps I've seen on Defenders seem to be tucked in pretty far, not leaving much room for a foot. I had a pickup like that once and if I wasn't careful, I'd slip (especially in the rain) and rake my shin down the side step. One of the effects of getting old, I guess! Are there some brands that stick out a little further or even retractable steps for a 2022 Defender 110?

For new builds the retractable steps are an option. It probably fits your 2022 as well, not sure about the wiring though.

The small step issue is the same on my GLS63. I was used to the perfect fixed side steps I had on my 2014 RAM Limited, when I got the GLS the slipping was constant, I now know better and pay attention when using it, but I can say the Defender fixed side step is much better than the GLS63 one.
