Default Key Fob Stopped Working after Battery Change

I got a dashboard warning that my fob battery needed to be replaced so I did so. Now, the fob no longer transmits. I have to lock and unlock using the manual key and to start the engine, I have to hold the fob ageist the steering column. My other fob works just fine. Yes, it's the correct battery and yes, it's installed in the correct orientation and yes, I've tried a 2nd new battery.

Is there any trick to getting the truck to recognized the fob after a battery change? Not looking forward to spending time at a JLR service center.

Thanks in advance

Sounds to me like you broke something in the fob when you were changing the battery.
Only 2 possibilities

You've broken the fob
You're not installing new battery correctly.

As you've ruled out the latter, it can only be the former.

This happened to me about a year ago. Changed my battery and had the same symptoms. My one and only productive time at my local Land Rover dealership was able to solve this issue. I did go to the parts department first and we swapped the battery with a name brand, "duracell" battery. Still didn't work so we made the walk to the SA and he played with the prongs securing the battery and that is what worked. Make sure the prong securing the battery has enough force to make a better contact. It's been a year and I have had no issues.

Where did you buy the battery? Amazon and many chain stores in the US and Canada have had their supply chains contaminated with fake Duracell and Energizer batteries. Packaging looks almost identical, but it's a crap shoot as to whether they work.

It's probably worth buying another battery from a different source and trying that.

Hmmm. Got it from Target. I'll try Walmart and hope it was the previous battery was simply DOA

Get in the car, close all doors. Hold the fob right against the steering column and press the start/stop button once (don't press the brake). Then, press and hold the lock button on the fob for a few seconds.

If that doesn't work, the fob itself might have gotten zapped when you changed the battery. It's an odd but known issue. You'll likely need a dealer to reprogram it.
Great tip - thanks. Alas, no joy. After I try with yet another battery, I may be stuck with a trip to JLR service.
