Default Keyfob door lock alarm/horn sound... is that really it?

I'm about a month into ownership and like the Defender more every day. My one (very minor) complaint is the pathetic half-horn "honk" that it makes after double-clicking the lock on the key fob. It's such a puny sound for something with the name Defender. Why couldn't they have made it one of those cool BMW-style "chirps" or even a simple beep?

That's it from me today. Back to driving!

I love it, so old school 70s. I think it’s purposeful and wonderful. One of the small little details I love about my Defender.

Yeah, I'm on the other end of the love/hate spectrum. Any time someone locks their door and there's a LOUD honk, it peeves me. Especially as I go to/from my car next to theirs and get honked at. So I HATE audible signals, but they are the most effective way to let you know it's actually locked. So I prefer a low click, beep, snort, honk. I'll admit that this one sounds like someone honking a horn on a large wheel bike, but I was so pleased that it was subtle that I didn't think of the tone of it. If there are other (low volume) "manly" sounds out there, sign me up! But for now, I'll just take subtle and am very content.

Same reaction here, but I reckon the "Toot" button on the new Grenadier will make a similar, puny sound... It's all about avoiding noise pollution.

Mine does the same but I checked to see if all the doors locked and found that the rear gate was not locking. Is the faint honk a fault signal? Are others having rear gate locking issues?

It will not lock if any of the doors, the rear hatch or the hood are not properly closed.

The vehicle will give you a little, repeitive noise to say "I will not lock the doors until you close up the vehicle".

Actually my doors close, lock and mirrors fold but the rear gate is not locked. I have now discovered if I let the gate “soft close” that the rear gate will lock. I am going to have the dealer look at it.

The rear door is locked but if you have the fob in a pocket, it will open up. try locking the doors place the fob in the house and then try opening the back door, you will notice it is locked.

Also the horn is much louder if someone is trying to get into the car. I was installing my mudflaps with a locked door. I forget why but I was rocking the car. the alarm system went off and the horn was pretty loud.

I think the audible use of the horn to indicate locked doors is stupid and disable it on any of my vehicles that I can.

A flash of the lights is sufficient on most, and the folding mirrors are a clear indication. But even absent that I can generally hear the lock cylinders anyway.anywa
